  1. 期末報告 RFC簡介與報告方式

  2. References • http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfcxx00.html • http://www.ietf.org • RFC2026: The Internet Standards Process –Revision 3 • RFC3160: The Tao of IETF - A Novice’s Guide to the Internet Engineering Task Force

  3. Internet Society (1/2) • Nonprofit organizations • To assure the open development, evolution, and use of the Internet for the benefit of all people throughout the world.

  4. Internet Society (2/2) • The Internet Architecture Board (IAB) • The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) • The Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG) • The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)

  5. RFC(Request for Comments) • 在要網路上成為通訊標準,必須向Internet Society提出。經過大家的監督、測試與使用,才能為大家所接受。 • 審核通過的RFC Editor會給與一個編號,成為RFC文件。 • Example:FTP是RFC-959、IP是RFC-791、ICMP是RFC-792、PPP是RFC-1661。

  6. Internet Standards Process • 成為通訊標準必需經過的步驟稱為Internet Standards Process: • Internet Drafts • Proposed Standards、Draft Standards 、Internet Standards (or Full Standards) • Internet Drafts提案不具任何實質「標準」地位。

  7. Levels of RFC Documents • Standards Track Maturity Levels • PS: Proposed standards • DS: Draft standards • S: Internet Standards • Non-Standards Track Maturity Levels • E: Experimental • I: Information • H: Historic

  8. RFC2865 Network Working Group C. Rigney Request for Comments: 2865 S. Willens Obsoletes: 2138 Livingston Category: Standards Track A. Rubens Merit W. Simpson Daydreamer June 2000Remote Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS)Status of this Memo This document specifies an Internet standards track protocol for the Internet community, and requests discussion and suggestions for improvements. Please refer to the current edition of the "Internet Official Protocol Standards" (STD 1) for the standardization state and status of this protocol. Distribution of this memo is unlimited.

  9. RFC負責單位 • IAB(Internet Architecture Board)/IESG(Internet Engineering Steering Group):主管篩選工作的單位。 • IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force) • IRTF(Internet Research Task Force):協調RFC內容,避免重覆定義。 • NIC(Network Information Center):收集管理RFC standards。

  10. 搜尋RFC的網站 • http://www.internic.net • ftp://ftp.cis.nctu.edu.tw/Documents/IETF/ • http://pubweb.nexor.co.uk/public/rfc/index/rfc.html • http://sunsite.auc.dk/RFC/ • Google: RFCRADIUS

  11. Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) • The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is the central coordinator for the assignment of unique parameter values for Internet protocols. • The IANA is chartered by the Internet Society to act as the clearinghouse to assign and coordinate the use of numerous Internet protocol parameters.

  12. Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) • The IETF is a large open international community of network designers, operators, vendors, and researchers concerned with the evolution of the Internet architecture and the smooth operation of the Internet. It is open to any interested individual.

  13. Active IETF Working Groups • The actual technical work of the IETF is done in its working groups. • The IETF working groups are grouped into areas (e.g., routing, transport, security, etc.). • Working groups are managed by Area Directors (ADs). • The ADs are members of the Internet Engineering Steering Group(IESG). • The General Area Director also serves as the chair of the IESG and of the IETF.

  14. Mission of IETF(1/2) • Identifying and proposing solution to operational and technical problems in the Internet. • Specifying the development or usage of protocols and the near-term architecture to solve such technical problems for the Internet.

  15. Mission of IETF(2/2) • Making recommendations to the IESG regarding the standardization of protocols and protocol usage in the Internet. • Facilitating technology transfer from the IRTF to the wider Internet community. • Providing a forum for the exchange of information within the Internet community between vendors, users, researchers, agency contractors, and network managements.
