  2. How to Read your Schedule/ Middle School Basics 1st Period

  3. A/B Schedules • On A days we have periods 1-6 and on B days we have periods 1-6. A1 is on a A day and B1 is on a B day. Your Schedule

  4. You will have core classes EVERY day! Math Language Arts Science Social Studies Your Schedule

  5. Your elective classes, you will have every other day for the WHOLE year. (i.e. If you have band 2nd period on A days you will have that class for the whole school year) Your Schedule

  6. Your Schedule has a lot of useful information Room Numbers Name of Class Teacher’s Name Your Schedule

  7. Period 4 tells you what lunch you have 4A indicates that you will have lunch between 3rd and 4th. 4B indicates that lunch is between 4th and 5thperiods. All 6th grade students have A Lunch. Your Schedule

  8. You have 6 classes every day- 58 minutes each. • 5 minutes passing time. • When the music starts playing, one minute before the tardy bell, that is your cue to be walking to class. • There should not be anyone standing and talking when the music begins. You have a 30 minute Lunch. Your Day

  9. You should exit the building by 3:00 pm each day unless you are working with a teacher. If you are waiting for a late pick up, you will wait in the alcove in front of the auditorium doors ( The doors with the movie character faces on them). Your Day

  10. If you need bus routes, bus passes or information about busing- Talk to Mr. Hennefer. *Buses leave school promptly at 2:57pm. Do Not Be Late! Bus Info.

  11. You will go to assemblies with your 2nd period teacher. Follow your teacher to the auditorium and sit in your assigned seat. Assemblies

  12. Planners, Offices, and Media Center 2nd Period

  13. Please write your name and student ID on page 1 of your planner. Your Planner

  14. Please write your schedule down on page 4 of your planner. Your Planner

  15. Your planner is very useful in keeping track of homework and assignments. It can also help you in making and achieving long term goals. The calendar can help you with due dates, tests and quizzes. Your Planner

  16. You MUST bring your planner to class EVERY day! Your planner is also your hall pass. Your teacher will sign you out on the day and period you are asking to use the hall pass. Your Planner

  17. The counseling center assists you with: Planning your schedule. Guidance for career choices. College Preparation. Assistance with school issues: Relationships with peers and teachers. General guidance counseling. Counseling Center

  18. You will need to make an appointment to see your counselor. Ms. Amber Terry (A-K). Ms. Tatiana Grant (L-Z). Ms. Tucker- Psychologist. Counseling Center

  19. The main office will assist with school fines, paying for your lunch, memory books etc. (Office with blue desks) Main Office

  20. The attendance office keeps track of all students attendance throughout the year. When you are absent, your parents must contact the attendance office to inform the school801-826-6810. Attendance Office

  21. The media center is open from 7:30am- 3:15pm Monday- Thursday and 9:00am- 3:15pm on Friday. You can check out books, look at research materials and access the internet, on media center computers. ( You must sign the computer user agreement before accessing the computers in school). Media Center

  22. If you would like to work in the library during lunch you must obtain a library pass. You can obtain a library pass from the library before lunch. The pass must be returned before the end of lunch to the librarian. Media Center

  23. Dress Code/ Lunch Procedure 3rd period

  24. Turn to page 12 of your planner- we will review the dress code Dress Code

  25. Breakfast is served from 7:10am- 7:40am The cost of breakfast is $1.10. Reduced breakfast is $0.30 Breakfast on Fridays will be served at 8:45am Breakfast

  26. There are two lunches 1st (A) and 2nd (B). Your lunch is attached to your 4th period class. Your lunch number is your Student ID Number- You will enter in your lunch number at the cash register when you are buying lunch. Lunch

  27. You can apply for free or reduced lunch benefits in the main office. The cost of lunch is $2.00 per day, reduced lunch is $0.40 per day. You can also buy lunch items a la carte, if you wish to purchase a single food item. Lunch money must be deposited in the main office before 9:30 am to available for lunch that day. Lunch

  28. You are expected to dispose of all lunch litter in the waste can. Leave the table and floor clean. Return trays to the dishwashing area. ALL food items are to REMAIN in the lunch area. Lunch

  29. All students are to remain in the cafeteria area during lunch. No visiting lockers or classrooms during lunch. Outside you will be able to be in the courtyard area. You may not cross the road! Lunch

  30. Tour and Cafeteria 4th period

  31. We will take a tour of the building. Please stay with your teacher! We will also be going to the cafeteria to learn about and practice lunch procedure. Tour

  32. Terminology 5th period

  33. You will earn grades three times per year. Term Grades

  34. Progress reports will be printed twice a term. • It will indicate your current grade and any missing assignments. Progress Reports

  35. Grade Point Average A = 4.0 B = 3.0 C = 2.0 D = 1.0 F = 0.0 GPA

  36. Requires a 3.6 GPA for the term Honor Roll

  37. National Junior Honors Society (NJHS) • Primarily a service organization. • In order to be a member you must have a 3.6 cumulative GPA during 6th, 7th, and 8thgrades. • You will be able to join in 7th grade but your 6th grade grades will determine if you can join. NJHS

  38. You will be assigned a grade for behavior and character, called a citizenship grade. Citizenship

  39. Classroom Document produced by the individual teacher that explains classroom rules and expectations. Disclosure Statement

  40. If you are going to be absent, your parent or guardian must call the Attendance Office. If your parent writes you a note, you must bring it and turn it into the Attendance Office. Guardian Excused Absence

  41. Verification of your illness, medical, or dental appointment by doctors note has been provided. • Verifies death or funeral of family member, court appearance, family wedding, etc. Excused Absence

  42. The student was absent and the school received no call or note from the parent or guardian. Unexcused Absence

  43. The student was not in the classroom, seated and ready to work, when the bell rang. Tardy

  44. In School Suspension assigned by an administrator. ISS

  45. Detention during the lunch hour. Lunch Detention

  46. Lockers 6th period

  47. Your locker is assigned in the same area as the other students in your grade. • Your locker is for your use only and is not to be shared with others. • Do not share your locker combination with other students. Lockers

  48. Lockers are the property of the Canyons School District. They have been assigned to you and you are expected to take good care of them. • You may lose locker privileges if ANY kind of abuse or vandalism takes place at your locker. • School administrators can open your lockers and search them when necessary. Lockers

  49. We will go to the locker area. • Please open and close your locker 3 times. • If you need help, find any teacher that is available. Lockers
