  2. I. LA PLUS GRANDE BATAILLE DU PACIFIQUE A. Présentation de l’île IWO JIMA , du japonais « île du soufre », est le théâtre de la plus grande bataille du Pacifique.

  3. Superficie: 21 km² mais étonnamment plate.Point culminant: mont SURIBACHI a 166 m.

  4. B. La bataille Elle eu lieu du 19 Février 1944 au 26 Mars 1944. Japon: 1083 survivants sur les 22 000. U.S.A:6 821 morts, dont 5 931 marines (soit environ un tiers des marines tués durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale) et 15 000 blessés. Les morts japonais dues aux bombardements intensifs des bateaux américains: le plus gros bombardement durant toute la 2nd guerre mondiale.
