  2. Mission Statement The Central Services Division is responsible for the planning, capital acquisition, and maintenance of all county facilities and vehicles. The goal of this support division is to maximize the utilitarian value of county resources while optimizing operational and capital costs. Strategic planning and visionary leadership will determine the destiny of the division. Central Services team members are proud to provide safe, clean, and environmentally-friendly county facilities and vehicles, as well as efficient, cost-effective, customer-focused repair and maintenance services.

VOLUSIA COUNTY FLEET COMPOSITION - TOTAL 2,423 PIECES of EQUIPMENT (July 2013) 388 patrol cars (16.0%) 136TV, golf carts, buses, forklifts, misc. vehicles (5.6%) 151 sedans (6.2%) 77 mowers (3.2%) 613 light trucks, SUV’s (25.3%) 137 heavy and special usage trucks (5.7%) 76 fire rescue 48 ambulances (5.2%) 539 equipment (22.2 %) 71 tractors (2.9%) 97 vans (4.0%) 90 engineering vehicles (3.7%)

Acquired 27 hybrid-electric vehicles Acquired 440 flex-fuel (ethanol) vehicles Electric-powered golf carts and fork lifts New Natural gas generator reduces GHG Propane-powered mowers and turf equipment Heavy trucks specified for optimum fuel efficiency and GPS monitoring. Fleet “size-right” campaign, i.e. car vs. SUV Will acquire 1st E.V. this year Plans to build CNG fueling station

  6. GREEN TECHNOLOGY….. Installed GPS on over 600 vehicles - reduced idling by 40%, saving $100,000 annually. Self-serve 24/7 automated motor pool in 2 cities Fleet right-sizing committee and vehicle cascading - reduced fleet by 50 units Recapped tire program saves $50,000 annually Air compressors at all fuel sites

  8. GREEN FUELS….. Acquired two free 10,000 gallon Ethanol tanks, dispensers, and piping ($450,000 value). Utilize Bio-diesel at fuel sites Installed off-road diesel tank at Landfill - saves $80,000 annually in fuel taxes. New Natural gas generator saves $1.50 a gallon Propane for forklifts, mowers and turf equip.
