BME 110L / BIOL 181L Computational Biology Tools www.soe.ucsc.edu/classes/bme110/Winter08 Today March 10: • Lecture:MaGnET - Malaria Genome Exploration Tool • A quick word - Bioinformatics (BINF) minor reqs On Thursday: • class: more exam preparation + feedback forms • evening: HW4 (remember deadline is Fri 5pm) Come talk to us about HW4, that’s allowed!

  2. BME 110L / BIOL 181L Bioinformatics (BINF) minor requirements Just in case you *liked* what you learned and wanted to take it a little bit farther http://www.bme.ucsc.edu/bioinformatics/requirements (formally 15 courses but you may have some under your belt already…) Come talk to us if you’d like to discuss/consider this option! 

  3. BME 110L / BIOL 181L A quick word/recap about JAVA Very common programming language for *visual* Bioinformatics tools An Applet runs directly through your web browser A WebStart Application is a program that is launched via a WebBrowser (and can check for updates) (An Application means: a program, i.e. similar to an .exe file in Windows) All these run primarily on your computer - but they can “talk”to other sites via the internet if they are programmed that way(e.g MaGnET is)
