SAFETY TERMS • Safety – the state or condition of being safe or freedom from danger, risk, or injury • Accident – any suddenly occurring unintentional event that causes injury or property damage • Hazard – a potential source of danger • First Aid – immediate temporary care given to the victim of an accident or sudden illness

  3. RESPONSIBILITIES • School • Adequate facilities • Good lighting • Temperature control • Emergency plan • Teacher • Challenging program • Safety instruction • Clean up program • Student • Safe and responsible practices • Area and equipment • Report safety hazards • Clean up

  4. CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT AND EQUIPMENT • Safety hazards • Narrow aisles • Small storage area • Crowded conditions • Students should: • Keep work area clean and neat • Use care around hazardous equipment

Classes of Fires • Class A – fires that occur in ordinary combustible materials • Class B – fires that occur with flammable liquids • Class C – fires that occur in or near electrical equipment • Class D – fires that occur with combustible materials • The two types of fires that are most likely to occur in the drafting lab are A and C

  7. FIRST AID • Notify instructor • Send someone for help • Administer first aid • Remove victim from immediate danger • Stay calm • Keep victim calm

PERSONAL SAFETY RULES • Keep chairs with all feet on floor • No running or horseplay • Use special equipment with permission only • Conduct yourself in a safe manner • Use tools for their intended use • Use tools and equipment after hearing safety instructions • Report all accidents to instructor • Lift heavy objects with supervision • Use paper trimmer with caution • Operate the white printer with care
