Balanced and Unbalanced forces

Balanced and Unbalanced forces. What is speed? Imagine that two birds leave the same tree at the same time. They both fly at 10km/hr for five minutes, 12km/hr for eight minutes, and 5km/hr for ten minutes. Why don’t they end up at the same place?. Warm up.

  1. Balanced and Unbalanced forces

  2. What is speed? Imagine that two birds leave the same tree at the same time. They both fly at 10km/hr for five minutes, 12km/hr for eight minutes, and 5km/hr for ten minutes. Why don’t they end up at the same place? Warm up

  3. Velocity- the speed of an object in a particular directionWhich of the following statements gives an accurate example of velocity?a. An airplane’s velocity is 600km/hrb. An airplane’s velocity is 600km/hr south Warm up continued

  4. The first law says that an object at rest tends to stay at rest, and an object in motion tends to stay in motion, with the same direction and speed unless a force acts on it. Question: What do you think will happen to a toy car put in motion on earth? Mini Lesson-checking law 1

  5. Hypothesisobservationexperiment results trial 1 trial 2 trial 3conclusion Mini Lesson-Checking law #1

  6. What is the purpose of having multiple trial runs?

  7. Definition- a push or pull Made up of- size and direction Unit- Newton Forces

  8. Texting Opening a car door Opening window blinds or shades Combing your hair Ways that we use forces everyday

  9. Net force- the combination of all forces acting on an object When forces act in the same direction, you add the forces to determine the net force. The net force will be in the same direction as the individual forces

  10. Unbalanced Force- net force is greater than zero and produces a change in motion When two forces act in opposite directions, you subtract the smaller force from the larger force to determine the net force. The net force will be in the same direction as the larger force.

  11. Balanced Force when the forces on an object produce a net force of zero

  12. Balanced Force when the forces on an object produce a net force of zero

  13. Class work Exit slip • Draw an illustration of playground equipment and tell how it is either a balanced or unbalanced force • What is the difference between speed and velocity • What is the difference between balanced and unbalanced forces Class work
