Collaboration Activities (?) • Beam Position Monitors (BPM) • Analog front-end RF electronics (filters, VGAs, etc.) • Digital read-out hardware (digitizer, timing) • Firmware, drivers, EPICS interface, software • Wall Current Monitor (WCM) • Vacuum RF hardware • LabVIEW signal analysis software • Beam Profile Monitors • Screen monitors (OTR/YaG)? • SEMs? • Wire scanners / flying wires? Some Very Important Aspects! • Scope of the collaboration • Collaboration on which beam instruments? • Consulting, components (hardware/software), complete systems? • Define deliverables for each instrument • Hardware and software boundaries • Clear definitions of performance, operating modes, upgrades, etc. • Time schedule • Prototype • Test installation • Production • Installation and commissioning EMMA Beam Instrumentation Collaboration

Other Important Aspects! • Agreements • We ALL need to agree on the discussed deliverables and the technology supplied by Fermilab! • For the development we need information: • Beam parameters (nominal & commission) • Technical drawings (AutoCAD, IDEAS) of the vacuum chamber(s) of button BPMs, diagnostics crosses, and WCM insertions. • Hardware and software standards used at EMMA (e.g. VME, EPICS, etc.) • Details on timing and trigger/clock signals • … EMMA Beam Instrumentation Collaboration

Proposal: BPM Read-out System • Complete button-BPM read-out system: • Based on a 16-ch. 500MS/s DDC digitizer board (ATCA) • Including analog signal conditioning hardware • FPGA firmware (DDC), driver software, EPIC interface, etc. • Timing hardware? • Calibration system? • Fermilab AD-Instrumentation department would: • Development and prototyping production • Test installation at the A0-Photoinjector? • Series production • Installation and system commissioning at EMMA • In-line with the NML ILC test accelerator BPM system! Beam Profile Monitors: SEMs • Secondary Emission Monitors (SEM) • SEMs were used in ECOOL facility at FNAL. • We need to know: • Numer of SEMs needed and relative location. • Vacuum can specifications. • Motor controller/interface to computer. • Electronics: Use existing FNAL or procure new. • Sample of ceramic board used for high accuracy in KTeV. • Dimensions: 4”x4”x3/16” with 1.25” Dia. • Wire type: 25 m AuW or other. • Pitch: 125 m to 5 mm.
