  8. We are ONE Calibri • Here at Calibri Motors we operate as ONE Calibri. • We are one organization, one voice, and one community. • We operate as a whole and respect our employees, management, and staff personnel equally.

  9. Module 1: It Begins from Within

  10. Understanding Yourself as an Individual • In order to accept others you must first accept yourself. You have to understand who you are as a person and the qualities that make you an unique individual. • What do you see when you look in the mirror? • What qualities make you as a person? • How are you different from the next person? • How are you similar to the next person?

  11. Relating to Yourself and Others • Once you are able to accept and understand yourself entirely then you are ready for the next step in understanding diversity. You have to relate to yourself and others. • You can now understand how someone feels as an individual and the components that make each person different.

  12. Activity: Who I Am…

  13. Module 2: Cultural Intelligence

  14. Acceptance of Diversity • Acceptance is the ability to respect and accept values from other cultural and societies. • Instead of viewing differences as a negative, they are seen as strengths, which are beneficial , allowing all to contribute in unique ways. • Differences among groups exist and can be respected and enjoyed, rather than feared and disliked. • Acceptance can be separated in to two different parts respect and cultural sensitivity.

  15. Acceptance of Diversity • Respect: In order to have respect for other cultures you have to be willingly to understand the difference in the cultures. • When you respect others cultures, the negative racial or cultural difference are not an impact on your thinking pattern. • Cultural sensitivity is being accepting of others cultural differences than ones own. • Having a positive cultural sensitivity will allow you to understand other cultures and interact more with different groups of people.

  16. Cultural Understanding • Empathy means that you have the ability to make an emotional connection with other individuals in other societies. Showing empathy will allow you to connect with many other people and cultures on you workforce. • Cultural awareness is the ability to look outside of ourselves and be aware of the cultural values, and customs of the culture we are in

  17. Cultural Knowledge • Information: Having information about other cultures will ensure that you have good opinions and feelings about others culture. •  Stereotyping is usually what happens when people in society have limited knowledge about another’s culture. • You must be knowledgeable in order to not wrongly stereotype other people.

  18. Module 3: Commitment to Professional Collaboration amongst Diversified Teams

  19. Communication • Workplace diversity can enhance business communication • Teams that do not value diversity have poor human relations, which lead to poor performance. Issues in regards to diversity can impact one-on-one interviews, interdepartmental meetings, and other methods of communication. • Through regular communication team members can gain a sense of commitment from associates to accomplish the mission and objectives for the team.

  20. Decision Making • Top executives create a company culture around values such as diversity and influence how individuals make decisions. • Ethical issues arise when managers deviate from organizational values and make decisions that do not respect or reflect diversity. • Executives must consider the impact of their decisions and how they affect the perception of the diverse individuals that make up a team.

  21. Leadership • Leadership is a process of influencing employees to work toward the achievement of objectives. • Empowering other individuals in a diverse team setting is fundamental to getting the maximum output from your team. • A leader understands, values, and uses the differences in each individual for the benefit of the team.

  22. Group Progress • A factor that slows the progression of a group is the failure for others to accept one another for what they are. • Diversity is essential for transforming weak areas into strong areas, failing to accept the diversity of others keeps the group from achieving the team goals, thus deteriorating the commitment to collaborate. • Diversity is what builds teams – a collection of experiences, backgrounds, and cultures that can view problems and challenges from a variety of individuals.

  23. Activity: Privilege Walk

  24. Module 4: Discrimination in Diversified Groups

  25. Importance of Diversity • As globalization continues to grow at such a fast rate more interaction is required with people from diverse cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds than ever before • A diverse workforce is a reflection of a changing world and marketplace. • Diversity is important in Calibri Motors as norm for several reasons: an increasingly multicultural world, recognition that different perspectives are important, and the necessity of compliance with anti-discrimination laws.

  27. Prevention Methods • Federal and State equal opportunity legislation make discrimination in workplaces illegal. • These laws specify the rights and responsibilities of both associates and employers in the workplace and hold both groups accountable • 1964 Civil Rights Act Title VII • Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967

  28. Racial Discrimination • To treat differently a person or group of people based on their racial origins is referred to as racial discrimination. • This particular item is separate from the others because at Calibri Motors, we want to make people aware that racial discrimination is not just black against white. • It could be vice versa or between didn’t ethnic groups. Either way, we have a zero tolerance for it as a company

  29. What is the EEOC? • Establishing the EEOC greatly enhanced the federal government’s ability to enforce equal employment opportunity laws. • The EEOC receives and investigates job discrimination complaints from aggrieves individuals. • The EEOC reserves the right to take action to the court systems to enforce the law.
