  2. Course Objectives • To teach the student a basic knowledge of: • MS Word • MS Excel • MS PowerPoint • MS Paint

  3. Class Rules • During class time computers are for class work • Please take care of the computers and equipment

  4. Class Rules • We are all respectful to everyone in our classroom • Unacceptable behavior among students is not tolerated

  5. Class Rules • Sitting still in your chair is appreciated • Please don’t talk while your instructor is talking

  6. Snack • We usually have a snack after our lesson • Please leave food and drinks outside of the classroom; however, you may eat and drink in the hallway area

  7. Assessment Form • Your instructor will ask you to fill out the following assessment form so that we have an idea about the level of your computer skills

Paint Lesson • Objective:  To teach the student how to use a computer application which is fun and allows freedom to explore the computer. • Procedure: Ask the students to open up the paint program. Doing this will give the students a chance to explore the different uses of the mouse and the art program.  

  14. Paint Lesson • Activities: • Give an example of how the students can use the Paint program. • Help the students to make something such as a picture or invitation.

Word Lesson Plan • Objective: To teach the students how to use the Microsoft Word application and the understanding of how they can implement the functions of the program. • Procedure: • Click the start button, where you will then be shown all the programs the PC has to offer. • From there go to the Microsoft Word program, whose icon is a blue W • Introduce the toolbar (file, edit, view, insert, format, tools, table, window, and help).

Word Lesson Plan • Procedure Cont: • Explain the different things you can do with the Word program, for instance how to save work, create different fonts, create new documents, and copy/paste • Show the students how to type documents and format them to create what they want. • Teach the students about print preview before they print and then teach how to print their final draft. • Have the students save their work so it can be used for later portfolios.

Excel Lesson • Objective: To teach the student how to the features and functions that are available in Excel and how to use them. • Procedure: • Teach how to insert a title and data into a blank spreadsheet. • Teach how to use different Functions (addition, average, total amount). • Teach how to make the spreadsheet look more presentable by: • Centering and enlarging the title, and adding color to it. • Highlight all the headings • Teach how to format each cell, • Teach how to make a relevant chart using the data. • After having explained everything to the student I will give them some raw data and ask them to make me a spreadsheet

  23. Excel Lesson • Activities: • Teach the student a completed spreadsheet. • Teach the student how to make the spreadsheet. • Have the student complete a spreadsheet on his/her own.

PowerPoint Lesson • Objective: The purpose of this lesson is to teach the student how to use Microsoft PowerPoint and create a presentation that he/she can relate to • Procedure: • Ask the student to create a slide show • Ask the student to type text • To choose a design and format • Add a picture to the presentation • Save the work, and view the slide show. • Ask the student to do a simple presentation on how to prepare a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

PowerPoint Lesson • Activities: • Relate to the lesson: The student will relate to the lesson sample since it is about food. • Complete the lesson: The student can complete the lesson by viewing the slide show, saving and printing. • Reinforce what has been learned: The samples provided will reinforce what has been learned.

  31. Ingredients • Peanut butter • Jelly • Bread • Plate • spoon

  32. Preparation • Place bread on plate • Take spoonful of peanut butter • Spread it on bread • Do the same with Jelly

  33. Time to eat • After the bread is put together place sandwich on plate • Serve with glass of milk • Enjoy!
