  1. STATUS UPDATE FOR CPRA January 26, 2011 SOUTHWEST COASTAL LOUISIANA FEASIBILITY STUDY

  2. BACKGROUND • Study combines Cong. Boustany Recon with LCA Chenier Plain Effort • Cost Share Agreement signed in Jan. 2009 • Scoping meetings held in Mar. 2009 • Feasibility Scoping Meeting – June 2010 • Study GOAL = a Comprehensive Restoration and Protection Plan for Southwest Coastal LA

  3. STATUS • We continue to refine the vision of the State Master Plan for Southwest Louisiana • Measure screening and evaluation is underway • Ecosystem benefits and Engineering cost for measures are being developed • H&H Modeling is underway • The Project Delivery Team meets weekly

  4. PLAN FORMULATION • Measure types under consideration include: • Shoreline stabilization • Unique natural features restoration • Marsh creation/restoration • Hurricane risk reduction • Hydrologic and salinity control • The study team will combine the best performing and cost effective restoration and risk reduction measures into alternatives

  6. ISSUES • Feasibility report guidance is more risk adverse than at study initiation • Review plan changes • Sea level rise requirements • Project Management Plan may be revised once H&H modeling is complete • President’s Budget for FY 2011 does not include funds for Southwest Coastal

  7. PATH FORWARD-SCHEDULE SCHEDULE Tentatively Selected Plan – Oct 2011 Alternative Formulation Briefing – June 2012 Draft Feasibility Report – Sept 2012 The Report will be actionable: a quality authorization document
