  2. Anti-Trust Caution GS1 and the GSMP operate under the GS1 anti-trust caution. Strict compliance with anti-trust laws is and always has been the policy of GS1. The best way to avoid problems is to remember that the purpose of the committee is to enhance the ability of all industry members to compete more efficiently. This means: • There shall be no discussion of prices, allocation of customers, or products, etc. • If any participant believes the group is drifting towards an impermissible discussion, the topic shall be tabled until the opinion of counsel can be obtained. • The full anti-trust caution is available in the Community Room if you would like to read it in its entirety

  3. Meeting Etiquette Meetings will begin promptly at designated start times Avoid distracting behaviour: • Place all mobile devices on silent mode • Avoid cell phones • Avoid sidebar conversations Speak in turn and be respectful of others Be collaborative in support of the meeting objectives

Building Standards to Deliver Business Value • Global Standards Management Process • A global forum for users to solve business challenges through standards-based solutions • Enables users to submit their business needs and collaboratively develop standards for greater supply chain efficiency • Uses a set of methods and rules to ensure that community needs are addressed

What Does GSMP Do? • Develops and maintains GS1 Standards • Standards for new applications and technologies • Updates existing standards for changes in technology or business needs • Adapts standards for industry applications • Develops supporting materials • Industry-specific Application Standards • Implementation Guides • Technologies and solutions

How Does GSMP Work? • Works through collaborative working groups, where members of the GS1 community participate, including • GS1 Member Organizations • GS1 Users (retailers, manufacturers, distributors) • Solution providers (GS1 Certified Data Pools, software providers, hardware suppliers) • The objectives of these working groups are to • Identify industry needs • Develop effective solutions to be implemented in trade • Ensure solutions meet user needs

  9. Who Can Participate • Members of the GS1 community: • Members of a GS1 Member Organization • GS1 Member Organizations • (e.g. GS1 Canada, GS1 Germany, etc.) • Global Data Synchronization Network Certified Data Pools • GS1 Affiliates • GS1 MO Affiliates • Other stakeholders

  10. What are the Requirements for Participation in GSMP? GSMP Community Level Participation: GS1 Members Companies in good standing sign IP Policy if they desire to participate inGSMP standards development, specifically: • Community Reviews • Community Votes GSMP Working Group Level Participation: GSMP Working Groups Participants sign IP Policy & Opt-In Agreement if they desire to participate in GSMP Working Groups for the purpose of: • Participating in defining standards requirements and guidelines • Participating in the development of the technical solution /standard

  16. Why does GS1 have an IP Policy? • To protect the GS1 community of users of GS1 standards to the best of GS1’s ability • To enable development of standards that can be practiced on a royalty-free basis to the greatest extent possible
