  1. THE PARABLE OF THE GOOD SEED Text: Matthew 13:24-30, 37-42 Intro: Not all people who heard the gospel responded right. Last week we have heard that those who heard the news told by the shepherds marvelled, they did not believed them. Even when Jesus rose up, the Jews’ knowledge is His body was stolen by the disciples- Matthew 18: 11-15 Today, the Gospel lies on the good seed. Who are the good seed? Aim: For us to propagate the gospel and increase in number.

  2. The main reason of sowing is for the seed to bear fruit or increase. We are not expected to convert all people but we are expected to increase in number. If we are not increasing in number we are not a good seed. I. THE SON OF MAN- v 37 He sows the good seed He owns the world as His field Out of this world He expects His seed to increase in number. He is the Lord of the harvest When He ascended on high, He gave gifts to the world, not just good ministers but good men as well

  3. Eph 4:11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, Eph4:12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 1Pe 4:10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. II. THE FIELD-is the world-v 38 The world of mankind, a large field Capable of bringing forth good fruit The world is Christ’s field, for all things are delivered unto him of the Father Because it is His He took care to sow it with good seed.

  4. III. THE GOOD SEED-are the children of the kingdom, true saints-v 38 These are the sons of God, not in profession only but with sincerity These are those who incorporate obedience in their faith They are the substance of the field Isa 6:13 But yet in it [shall be] a tenth, and [it] shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance [is] in them, when they cast [their leaves: so] the holy seed [shall be] the substance thereof. The seed is scattered, dispersed, one here and there another In some places thickly sown They have to be tended, watered, fertilized, and fenced or they will come to nothing

  5. Hosea 2:23 Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, 'You are My people!' And they shall say, 'You are my God! IV. THE TARES- are the children of the wicked one-v 38 These are the sinners, hypocrites, the lawless one, wicked The devil works in them They are educated by the devil Jhn 8:44 Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

  6. They do no good, they do hurt • Unprofitable in themselves, and hurtful to the good seed, both by temptation and persecution • They are weeds in the garden • Have the same rain, and sunshine, and soil, with the good plants, but are good for nothing • The tares are among the wheat. • God ordered it for the good and bad together • That good may be exercised • The bad will be left inexcusable • To make difference • Jud 1:22 And on some have compassion, making a distinction; • The tares easily grows and even stronger or taller

  7. The tares only appear (distinguished) when the grain had sprouted and produced crop-v 26 • By their fruits you will know them • So they could have been there for a while • The rise of errors, the breaking out of scandals, and the growth of profaneness, are matter of great grief to all the servants of Christ • It is sad to see such tares, such weeds, in the garden of the Lord • To see the good soil wasted, the good seed choked • The master knows them and does not put the blames on His servants as long as they do not love sleep, they do not plant them themselves or water them • Do not be hasty to uproot the tares because it’s a hazard to the wheat

  8. You might just be causing more damage than cure • The Lord didn’t permit His servants to uproot the tares before the due time because it’s impossible to separate them without causing harm to the good seed • Be patient with them • 2Ti 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

  9. V. THE ENEMY-who sowed the tares is the devil • A sworn enemy to Christ and all that is good • To the glory of the good God • To the comfort and happiness of all good men. • He is an enemy to the field of the world • He endeavours to make his own, by sowing his tares in it. • Ever since he became a wicked spirit himself, he has been industrious to promote wickedness, and has made it his business, aiming therein to counterwork Christ. • He does his sowing when men slept, off guard, • When reason and conscience slept • This is why we are commanded to be sober and watchful/vigilant

  10. Psalm 104:20 You make darkness, and it is night, In which all the beasts of the forest creep about. • Mar 4:26 And He said, "The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, • Mar 4:27 "and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. • It is impossible not to sleep or to avoid the night and so it is impossible to avoid hypocrites in church • When the enemy had sown the tares he went his way-v 25 • That it might not be known who did it. • When Satan is doing the greatest mischief, he studies most to conceal himself; for his design is in danger of being spoiled if he be seen in it

  11. 2Cr 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. • 2Cr 11:14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. • 2Cr 11:15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works. • He went his way, as if he had done no harm; such is the way of the adulterous woman • Pro 30:20 This is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth, And says, "I have done no wickedness.“

  12. VI. THE HARVEST-the end of the world-v 39 • This world will have an end; though it continue long, it will not continue always • Time will shortly be swallowed up in eternity. • At the end of the world, there will be a great harvest-day, a day of judgment • At harvest all is ripe and ready to be cut down: both good and bad are ripe at the great-day • Rev 14:15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, "Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come for You to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe."

  13. Mal 3:18 -Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serve God and him that serve him not. • Zep 1:3 KJV - 3 I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD. VII. THE REAPERS are the angels-V 39 • Mat 25:31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. • The angels are skilful, strong, and swift, obedient servants to Christ

  14. Holy enemies to the wicked, and faithful friends to all the saints • Therefore fit to be thus employed. VIII. HELL TORMENTS-V 40 • Are the fire, into which the tares shall then be cast, and in which they shall be burned • The tares will be gathered out of His kingdom, all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness and cast out into the fire • The tares will be bound in bundles in hell • Psa 26:9 KJV - 9 Gather not my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men:

  15. 1Sa 25:29 KJV - 29 Yet a man is risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, [as out] of the middle of a sling. IX. HEAVEN-is the barn into which all God’s wheat shall be gathered in that harvest-day. • Psalm 50:5 KJV - 5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice

  16. CHALLENGE: • Are you a good seed or a tare? • Are you reproducing? CONCLUSION: • Mat 13:43 "Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

  17. Who am I? That the Lord of all the earth,Would care to know my name,Would care to feel my hurt.Who am I? That the bright and morning star,Would choose to light the way,For my ever wandering heart.Bridge:Not because of who I am,But because of what you've done.Not because of what I've done,But because of who you are.

  18. I am a flower quickly fading,Here today and gone tomorrow,A wave tossed in the ocean,A vapor in the wind.Still you hear me when I'm calling,Lord, you catch me when I'm falling,And you've told me who I am.I am yours. I am yours.

  19. Who am I? That the eyes that see my sinWould look on me with loveAnd watch me rise again.Who am I? That the voice that calmed the sea,Would call out through the rain,And calm the storm in me.Whom shall I fearWhom shall I fearCause I am yours..I am yours..
