  13. VRP ChecklistSite Characterization Presented by: Chris Evans – VRP Project Officer Rob Timmins – VRP Project Officer William Lindsay – VRP Project Officer Kyle Newman – Risk Assessor

  14. Work To Be Performed • Site Characterization • Consistent with Conceptual Site Model • Consider lines of evidence • Complete and accurate delineation of the nature and extent of contamination • Onsite and offsite • DEQ recognizes the challenges of offsite characterization and determining resulting risk • A complete and well prepared & presented SCR significantly helps us during review • You know the site well, we don’t • Detailed and up to date plans, maps, and drawings can present a lot of information quickly • Helps us better understand a site about which we know little • Helps reduce questions resulting in much less extensive comment letters • Shortens the overall time, which we all want • We use the checklist as a tool

  15. Work to be Performed • Complete figures are very helpful • Illustrates the story • include scale, complete legend, legible text and markings • Accurately dated figures with sample dates

  16. Property and VRP Site Boundaries

  17. Groundwater Potentiometric Map

  18. Vapor Sampling Locations

  19. Work To Be Performed • Boring methods and logs • Well construction • Helps us understand subsurface, groundwater, and surface water relationships

  20. Well Construction Log

  21. Work To Be Performed • Consider CSM • Extremely informative and helpful • Tells a big part of the story • Indicate source location(s) • Scale, legend, legible text and markings • Utility locations

  22. Vertical and Horizontal Delineation • Refer to conceptual site model • Evaluate each media as necessary • Consider all appropriate analytes
