2. A whole note gets 4 beats The whole note is the basis of the note system. Each smaller note is made up of some fraction of the whole note or rest.

3. A whole rest also gets 4 beats The whole note represents 4 beats of sound & The whole rest represents 4 beats of silence.

4. A Half note gets 2 beats 2 half notes take the same amount of time as 1 whole note Each half note represents 2 beats of sound. 2 half notes = 1 whole note

5. A Half rest gets 2 beats 2 half rests take the same amount of time as 1 whole rest Each half rest represents 2 beats of silence. 2 half rests = 1 whole rest

6. A Quarter note gets 1 beat 2 quarter notes =1 half note 4 quarter notes = 1 whole note Each quarter note represents 1 beat of sound.

7. A Quarter rest gets 1 beat 2 quarter rests =1 half rest 4 quarter rests = 1 whole rest Each quarter rest represents 1 beat of silence.

8. An 8th note gets ½ beat Two 8th notes =1 quarter note Eight 8th notes = 1 whole note Each 8th note represents ½ beat of sound.

9. An 8th rest gets ½ beat Two 8th rests =1 quarter rest Eight 8th rests= 1 whole rest Each 8th rest represents ½ beat of silence.

10. A 16th note gets ¼ beat Two 16th notes =1 8th note Sixteen 16th notes = 1 whole note Each 16th note represents ¼ beat of sound.

11. A 16th rest gets ¼ beat Two 16th rests = one 8th rest Sixteen 16th rests = 1 whole rest Each 16th rest represents ¼ beat of silence.
