  2. General Objective Purchasing and Supply Management (PSM): On average, it is estimated that purchasing function spends about 60 percent of a organization’s revenue. Good purchasing and supply management can greatly improve the ROI, productivity, profitability and customer satisfaction. As a function, purchasing department works closely with all other entities and departments of an organization. This seminar will provide an overview of basic issues, methods, and problems of purchasing and supply management. A good supplier management practice not only enhances supply chain and operational performance in terms of cost, quality, and lead time improvements, but can lead to strategic successes in terms of new product development and innovation in the long run. General Objective • Upon completion of this course, students are expected to: • Develop a framework formanagerial, administrative, strategic and tactical aspects of the purchasing function • Build good critical-thinking skills related to purchasing and supplier management which are a central piece to supply chain management • Develop a framework necessary for the pertinent issues in purchasing management for both the goods and services business sectors. Instructor Dr. Rupak Rauniar Dr. RupakRauniar is aprofessorof strategic management and operations and supply chain management in the School of Business Administration at the University of Houston-Victoria. He received his PhD in manufacturing management and engineering, and an MBA in strategic management from the University of Toledo in Ohio. He also holds a bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering from Birla Institute of Technology in India. Prior to joining the faculty in the School of Business at UHV in 2010, Dr. Rauniar taught various business courses in both undergraduate and graduate levels at Jackson State University in Mississippi, and the University of St. Thomas in Houston. His research interests are primarily in e-commerce and information systems, new product development and project management, and knowledge integration. His significant research publications have appeared in the Decision Sciences Journal,Journal of Business and Behavioral Science,Journal of e-commerce Research, International Journal of Electronic Business, International Journal of Operations and Production Management,International Journal of Production Economics, and Journal of Information and Knowledge Management. Dr. Rauniar was the recipient of the highly regarded Saint Edith Stein Excellence in Research Award in 2010 from the University of St. Thomas and a Best Paper Award in e-commerce at Decision Sciences Annual Conference in 2009.
