Diffuser Performance Assessment Kanawha River, WV

This report details the assessment of diffuser performance in the Kanawha River, WV, conducted by The Advent Group, Inc. Utilizing diverse data sources, including Stream Network from NHD, DEM grid from NED, and digital orthophotos from WVDEP, we constructed a comprehensive basemap for our study. Field measurements with Rhodamine WT dye were taken at several depths relative to the diffuser. The data was analyzed using Coordinate System transformations with UTM/NAD83 references. A TIN was created from the DEM grid for enhanced visualization and analysis of dispersion values.

  5. Coordinate System / Datum • UTM coordinate system • Zone 17N = Belle, WV • NAD83 • Orthophoto was originally UTM/NAD27 • NHD, NED were originally geographic • Field Measurements are relative to the diffuser; not the UTM x/y coordinate system.

  6. Field Study Info • Rhodamine WT dye • Located on river relative to the diffuser and the right edge of water by a surveying crew (on land) • Samples taken from: • surface • 0.2 (total depth) • 0.6 (total depth) • 0.8 (total depth) • bottom

  7. Coordinate System Rotation R = (DScos318o + REWcos228o)i +(DSsin318o + REWsin228o)j

  8. Addition of Min. Dispersion Values

  9. Another View of Min. Dispersion
