  1. Frequency decimation circuit (FDC) To achieve a fully functional wireless network employing the method described, the implementation of a FDC, capable of operating at very high sampling rates, is first required. Background Several operations in a wireless network, such as neighbour discovery and spectrum access coordination rely on control message exchange in a reliable control channel. For specific services and systems, however, a globally available static allocation of the control channel is not a practical solution, as it makes this channel more prone to saturation and security attacks, and, in dynamic spectrum access scenarios, it may be unfeasible to deploy. What is our solution? With this work, we propose a novel scheme for the implementation of a dynamic common control channel that, contrarily to other architectures proposed in the literature, is quickly setup and rapidly identified and accessed by users, without significantly increasing the wireless network overhead. Through a frequency decimation algorithm performed by an analog circuit, each user is able to scan a large number of channels simultaneously in the look for its neighbours’ in-band beaconing messages, without the need to increase its ADC speed and resolution. Frequency decimation method to support dynamic control channels for wireless networksFrancisco Paisana, Nicola Marchetti, LuizDaSilva Possible Applications This technology is applicable to any wireless network capable of multi-channel operation. • Challenges • The design of a control channel faces the following issues: • Saturation; • Security; • Regulatory issues, associated with the allocation of a globally available out-of-band channel; • Robustness to incumbents’ activity; • Gap between data and control channels’ ranges; • Fast network discovery and channel setup; • Broadcasting. What are the advantages? In the following table we compare the capability of our approach to solve the challenges faced by other solutions proposed in the literature. Technology and Patent Status Invention Disclosure filed August 2013. Patent Application under consideration. This technology is available to license With the proposed technique, we aim to solve the high network setup delay issues inherent to most dynamic control channel designs.
