  1. Computing Activities around Japan Yoshiyuki WATASE Head of KEK Computing Research Center

  2. On going experiments • HEP at KEK • Belle B Factory experiment at KEK • 12 GeV PS (being shutdown in 2005) • Kaon Rare Decay • K2k Long base-line Neutrino Oscillation experiment • International collaborations • LHC/Atlas • Tevatron/CDF • Hera/Zeus • BNL/RHIC

  3. Under construction • J-PARC: High intensity proton accelerator facility http://j-parc.jp/index.html • 3GeV for Neutron Facility/ Meson Facility: 1MW • 50GeV for HENP experiments and Neutrino OSC exp: 0.75MW • Joint project with Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI) • Location: JAERI site, 60 km east of KEK, Pacific Ocean side • Beam commissioning starts 2008 • We are designing computing and network environment.

  4. J-PARCPlan View

  5. Computing Activities • Belle computing • Luminosity 1034 ~> 1035 cm-2sec-1 • Integrated up to 200 fb-1 hereafter ~ 1 fb-1/day • Raw Data : -0.5 ~ 1TB/day Whole data ~1 PB/year • KEK Comp. Facility #CPU 1000 CPU ~ 1500GHZ #Storage 650TB (tape) 100TB(disk) Investment: $1~2 M every recent years • Collaborator’s Facility #CPU almost half of total CPU of KEK • Nagoya, Tohoku, Melbourne, Princeton, TIT, LPHE, .. • Data sharing by dedicated GbE network(SuperSINET) with Universities in Japan • NSF mount & ftp transfer: Nagoya, Tohoku, Tokyo, Osaka

  6. Computing Activities • Grid related • For Belle • Data replication and federation test with SRB(SDSC) • Preparing for the LCG based Tier-0 Center at KEK • Collaboration :KEK – Melbourne (Australia), Korea, Taiwan • For Atlas • Atlas Tier-1 Center in JAPAN being set up at Univ. Tokyo (ICEPP) • KEK will collaborate as Tier-2 Center • Workshop • 26-28 July 04 at Taipei (Taiwan) “Int’l Symposium on Grid Computing 2004” • LCG special session

  7. Expectation for IHEPCCC • Coordination on the following items • Secure network environment for Grid based colaboratory • Common certification mechanism for resource sharing: common tools and means • HEP software development in order to maximize the result of development efforts • Information exchange for common issues
