  1. Killing in the Name of God

  2. Genocide: The deliberate killing of a group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation. Democide: a term revived and redefined by the political scientist R. J. Rummel as "the murder of any person or people by a government, includinggenocide, politicide, and mass murder."

  3. Genocide in America • Slaughtering of the Native Americans • Murder of African Americans by the KKK and other hate groups

  4. Religious Justification • The Europeans slaughtered Natives on the basis of their compliance with Christianity. If the Natives didn’t convert they were killed in mass numbers, because they were considered a threat. • The KKK used a misconstrued verse in the Bible to justify their actions through the belief that Africans were never meant to be in America because they “tainted” the white race.

  5. Democide in Turkey • 1900-1923. 4.5 Million non Muslims were slaughtered in Turkey. • Armenians, Greeks, Nestorians, and other Christians were all murdered.

  6. Religious Justification • The government was responsible for its actions spiritually. Therefore, their killing was “justified” by God.
