What is College Essay? • While applying for any scholarship or college program, students need to submit an essay telling details about themselves along with other documents like their mark sheet, such an essay is called College Essay. • It is also called a personal statement. You have to explain in detail about yourself, and your professional and academic goals in that essay, which can able to convince the admission committee that you’re an eligible candidate for their institution.

Importance of College Essay • The college application contains a few questions about the students which require answers, so the college essay is the answer to those questions only. • College essays written by the students help the admission committee to understand the students from different aspects other than their scores and GPA. • It helps the committee to get a more clear idea about the motivations of the students in other portions of their life other than academics. • The admission committee will have a clearer picture of the intention and future goals of the students, which will prove that the student is capable of getting admission to their school.

To Do’s in College Essay • Explain a story in your essay that will help the reader to connect with you. • You need to brainstorm for your essay topic and has to pick out the best one in which you can speak honestly. • The essay must be about you and not about the thing or person you care about. • Make your essay a little emotional and realistic by adding family problems, illness, hardship, etc. • Be creative and write your essay in narrative form. • Revise it, proofread it, and make corrections for grammatical and spelling mistakes.

Don’ts in College Essay • There is no need to explain your accomplishments in the essay as you have already listed them in your application. • It is best to keep your essay simple and write an effective yet straightforward story. • Don’t make up any story it will not impress the committee, just be authentic. • It is tricky to add comedy to your essay, an essay full of humor will make it dull so add a little bit of laugh to it. • Try to start writing your essay early, last-minute writing can have a negative on the quality of your essay. • Don’t make your essay repetitive.
