Attendance Regular Attendance is Essential for learning at OLGS Students must be unpacked and in their classrooms by 7:50 a.m. Parent/guardian must call the school between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. to report absences. A doctor’s certificate is required for re-admission when: Student has been absent 3 consecutive days. Student has a communicable disease.

  3. Attendance2 Vacations during the school year are strongly discouraged. Missed work and assignments may only be obtained upon return. More than 20 days absent per year is considered excessive. Parent/principal meeting Summer school

  4. Attendance3 If a student is home for more than 1 day, please make arrangements to pick up or have homework sent by a sibling or neighbor. (Notify school by 1:30 p.m.) Dismissal is 2:40 p.m. All students must be picked up by 3:00 p.m.

  9. Homework 2 Daily assignments (as written in homework planner) Study for tests /Alternative assessments (in lieu of written tests) Make-up work for absences Monthly book projects Three Long-term projects

  10. Homework3 Missing Assignments (new school-wide policy for 2011/2012) If due to illness, must be handed in within 2 days after student returns to school. If due to carelessness, assignment will only be accepted on the following day and will be graded one letter grade lower as a consequence for lateness.

  11. Monthly Book Projects Read one book per month Variety of genres Written report (short form) and/or book project Assigned on first school day of each month Due on last school day of each month Report formats posted on my website and are provided to students with assignment

Grades Students receive letter grades in all Content Areas and Resource Classes Assignments averaged into total grade (number correct / total number of points) Grades are posted on a bi-weekly basis Friday Graded Work/Test Folder Progress Report each Trimester PowerSchool Parent Access / Training is MANDATORY

Math Connects Instruction based on a combination of textbook, technology, and hands-on activities Differentiated instruction based on ability level (re-teach and enrichment activities) Online Resources: Student Textbook (access code provided) Games, practice problems, tutoring, quizzes, tests www.macmillanmh.com

  16. 100 Book Challenge Daily D.E.A.R. Students read 30 minutes daily (15 school; 15 home) One on one student/teacher conferencing to monitor skills and progress
