  2. Purpose • Update of anticiatedchanges to accreditation for 2018-2019

  3. Verified Credits Five Verified Credits for both the standard and advanced diploma: • Reading • Writing • Mathematics • Science • History Locally verified credits may be used for the Advanced Studies and Standard diplomas.

  4. Options for earning a verified credit in history or writing • Pass the SOL end-of-course test or a board approved substitute OR • Earn a locally awarded verified credit (no more than one per student) OR • Successfully complete a locally administered authentic performance assessment

  5. Requirements to take end-of-course tests “Students shall not be required to take an end-of-course SOL test in an academic subject after they have earned the number of verified credits required for that academic content area for graduation, unless such test is necessary in order for the school to meet federal accountability requirements.”

  6. Growth A student will be counted in the numerator of the reading or mathematics combined rate if: • The student passes the assessment (recovery students still count twice); OR • The student does not pass the assessment but demonstrates growth using the progress tables (following two slides, students must move at least one column to the right); OR • For the reading assessment only, the student does not pass the assessment or demonstrate growth, but is an ELL and demonstrates progress as measured by the ACCESS of ELLs 2.0 assessment.
