  4. FPEL Curriculum and Assessment committee (members) • DD for CASS(Chair) • DD for academic programmes; • Head of AU, • Head of CU, • All FPEL CCs, • FPEL Area Coordinator, • Two FPEL teachers selected by the Director for the duration of one year.

  5. Committee duties • Raise and discuss issues concerning curriculum and assessment policies and make decisions when applicable. • Make policy proposals on matters related to assessment and curriculum for discussion at the LC Steering Committee or DDs meetings. • Evaluate and propose the development of courses and curricula common to all FPEL courses.

  6. Student Support Committee (members) • Deputy Director for CASS (HEAD) • Head of SSU • Representative FELP and CELP (2 from each) • Two teachers (one from each FPEL/CELP, selected by the director for a duration of one year) • Director of Administration • Student Affairs Coordinator • A student representative once the student board is approved

  7. Committee duties • Discuss issues concerning SSU activities, services and resources and make decisions when applicable. • Review policy proposals on matters submitted by the SSU. • Evaluate and propose the development of student services, activities and resources in the Language Centre. • Liaise with programs and stakeholders regarding needs and to ensure exchange of ideas. • Review the annual action plan and budget requests submitted by the SSU. • Review the staffing requirements and make recommendations to the Director.

CU (Last Year) • FPEL Reading and Vocabulary Skills Needs Analysis • Development of Supplementary Materials Repository in cooperation in cooperation with the Faculty Academic Support Unit • The New FPEL Pronunciation Syllabus • Materials Development: Explore Writing, Grammar materials, Reading for Law • Piloting E-folios (continuing)

  10. CU (plans & projects) • Launch a large-scale materials development project to produce a reading & vocabulary course for FPEL 0120, 0230 and 0340 • Develop FPEL pronunciation course based on the new syllabus and incorporating the CALL software available • Piloting new listening & speaking and reading materials for proficiency levels 1-3 • Conducting PD events on relevant curricular issues • Developing a CUpublication

Duties • Supervise and manage assessment procedures for the FPEL. • Assist with printing and test security procedures • Assist in administration procedures, including the day-to-day running of the Unit • Assist in all areas of work relevant to the Placement and Exit Tests • Maintain security of tests and test-related materials • Manage the testing materials database

Student Support Unit (Library) • The space will be expanding to offer open lab space for students and increased self-access learning opportunities. • Readers were reorganized over the summer and are now shelved by genre, then (moodlereader) level, then title. • Teachers are encouraged to bring classes to the library to see/try available self-access materials.  This is best done at the end of a computer lab session.  An orientation worksheet will be made available on Moodle.

  16. SSU (Writing Centre) • Supporting student writers in the higher courses. • Staffing the centre with Part-timers. • New SSU Member in charge, Tony Schiera.

  17. SSU Tutorial Centre • There is a new format for tutorials where students may self-refer or be teacher-referred for WEEKLY tutorial sessions (rather than ad hoc appointments). • In addition to addressing students' individual concerns in the tutorial session, a reading/vocabulary focused (progressive) program will be followed with an emphasis on encouraging tutees to engage in self-access materials. • If you have any questions about the Tutorial Centre, you can contact the SSU Member in Charge, Alexandra Craig.
