Changes in the Ecosystem of Urmia Lake Bisexual Females

and its effects on Artemia Production

Sever drought conditions since 1997

Gradual increase in salinity from 220 ppt to over 300 ppt & Saturation of the lake with brine

Destructive effects on Artemia, phytoplankton and birds

Total ban on exploitation of Artemia from the lake

Need for a constant look out on the lake and assessment of the artemia cyst and biomass production
