  2. SLSL Safety Orientation Purpose • Provide SF Non-Residents and Guests a familiarity with SLS Labs. • Communicate requirements and expectations for compliance with security, safety, health and environmental management

  3. SLSL Safety Orientation General All Residents, Non-Residents, Guests, Visitors and Contractors must comply with applicable NASA and KSC policies and requirements. SF run labs have additional requirements that must be followed. Quality Management System Policy • CSS-Dynamac is committed to delivering high quality error-free products and services that meet or exceed Customer requirements.

SLSL Safety Orientation Environmental ProtectionPolicy Space Florida (SF) is committed to environmental excellence and shall conduct all of its affairs in accordance with sound environmental-protection practices, including pollution prevention, wherever possible. SF is committed to complying with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, policies, and Executive Orders, and with NASA’s environmental directives, procedures, and guidelines.

  5. SLSL Safety Orientation • Visitors and contractors are required to sign-in/out and to wear a visitor or contractor badge while in the building. It is essential that visitors sign in and out to ensure that everyone is accounted for in the event of an evacuation. • Foreign nationals will be escorted as required by KSC Security • SLS Lab entry doors (front lobby & patio doors) are open 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM M-F, (though the doors are usually unlocked by 7:00 AM) • All doors will remain locked after hours and on weekends • Tours should be prearranged through the sponsoring lab partner and with the lab lead for laboratories

SLSL Safety Orientation Emergency Procedures When a Fire Emergency is Identified • Actuate the nearest fire alarm box • Call the KSC Fire Department at 911 or by cell at 321-867-7911 • Convey any pertinent fire or rescue information to the Fire Department When the fire alarm sounds, all personnel should: • Notify nearby personnel of the emergency • Shutdown operating equipment (e.g., compressed gas cylinders) if possible • Close fume hood sash • Close office & laboratory doors • Exit the building using stairwells to Marshalling Area • Notify your lead, supervisor, or sponsor of your location

  7. SLSL Safety Orientation Emergency Procedures • Do not attempt to control or extinguish a fire. Fire Extinguishers should only be used if a fire blocks an evacuation egress route. Never enter a room that is smoke filled or if the door is warm to touch. Know where primary and alternate exits are located, and be familiar with the available evacuation routes Do not block emergency equipment or exits • Do not to stop by your desk to pick up personal items

SLSL Safety Orientation Emergency Procedures Disabled Occupants • If unable to exit the building unassisted, the employees supervisor must notify the emergency coordinator/incident commander of the person's location. • An Evacuation-chair is available for use on the 2nd floor, next to the Stair 1, North West Stairwell. • If unable to safely assist the employee down the stairs, relocate disabled individual to a safe area (e.g. stairwell) on the same floor in close proximity to an emergency exit, unless imminent life-threatening conditions exist.

  9. Marshalling Area Use the stairs nearest your location to exit the building from the 2nd or 3rd floors. DO NOT stop by your desk to pick up personal items. No one should leave the Marshalling Area until authorized by Emergency Coordinator or KSC Incident Commander. SLSL Safety Orientation Emergency Procedures Once evacuated personnel have reached the Marshalling Area • Report to your lead, supervisor, or sponsor as appropriate. • DO NOT LEAVE the marshalling area until released • Your Supervisor will report the evacuation status to the Emergency Coordinator

SLSL Safety Orientation Emergency Procedures Other Emergencies: • Call the KSC Fire Department at 911 or 321-867-7911 on your cellular phone • State your name, your location (SLS Lab, M6-1025), and the nature of the call • Speak slowly and clearly, explaining the emergency • Wait for the dispatcher to hang up. The dispatcher may need additional information or may provide additional instructions • Follow instructions of dispatcher

SLSL Safety Orientation Emergency Procedures Other Emergencies: • Tornado: • Tornado watch: Prepare for quick shutdown • Tornado warning: • All personnel should safe their current operation • Move to the central laboratory corridor on the first or second floor or the inner wall on the third floor • Remain in this location until the all-clear is announced • Other emergencies (lightning, bomb threat, etc.) • Listen to announcements over the paging and area warning system. Follow instructions

SLSL Safety Orientation Emergency Procedures Other Emergencies: • Hazardous Chemicals Spills • For lab spills of a non-toxic substance of <1 gallon, contact your Supervisor and dike the area if possible. • For spills >1gallon or acutely hazardous materials, evacuate the immediate area and call 911. Call your Supervisor.

SLSL Safety Orientation Emergency Procedures The SLS Lab has emergency power generators to transfer critical systems to emergency power Transfer of power takes six - eight seconds and could result in the loss of fume hood exhaust or other hazard control devices In the event of a power loss • Save all operations including closing of the fume hood until transfer to emergency power or return to normal power is complete • Listen for the announcement to Resume Normal Operations via the Paging and Area Warning system

SLSL Safety Orientation Mishaps/Close-Calls All Mishaps/Close-Calls must be reported to the Facility Manager MishapAn undesired and unexpected event (accidents) resulting in the following: • injury requiring more than first aid or occupational illness • damage to property of at least $1,000 Close CallAn undesired and unexpected event resulting in the following: • injury or illness requiring first-aid only • property damage (less than $1,000) • potential to cause a Mishap or negative mission impact

  16. SLSL Safety Orientation Mishaps/Close-Calls Initial Reporting - The employee(s) involved will report to their Supervisor immediately (within one hour). If the Supervisor is not available, the report is made to the appropriate Safety Officer. A life threatening injury or fatality will be reported immediately to the employee’s Program Manager and to the CSS-Dynamac Operations or Facility Managers. NASA employees will report to NASA Safety. Follow up Reporting - • SF Safety and your Supervisor will investigate to determine the incident root cause(s), make recommendations and identify corrective action(s) to prevent a recurrence of a similar incident. • An updated, completed Internal Mishap/Close Call Report will be sent to SF Safety at the conclusion of the investigation. The report includes root cause, corrective action and preventive action. Follow-up will occur for corrective actions.

SLSL Safety Orientation Hazard Communication Labeling of Chemical and MSDS • Each tenant in the facility is responsible for chemicals in their laboratory and for proper labeling and inventory management. • Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are located in your labs and in the Shipping/Receiving area. • Familiarize yourself by reading the MSDS on chemicals you are using. Understand the physical and health hazards and the type of Personal Protective Equipment that is required when using a chemical. • If you have questions or concerns or if you do not have access to the above web site, obtain MSDS information from your immediate Supervisor.

SLSL Safety Orientation Hazard Communication Labeling of Chemicals and MSDS Hazard Material Identification System (HMIS) labeling is required on secondary containers unless it is for immediate use (same day) of the employee who performed the transfer from the primary container. You can obtain HMIS labels by contacting our Research Support Staff or Safety • The numeric system rates a hazard from 0 (low hazard) to 4 (high hazard)

SLSL Safety Orientation Hazard Communication Laboratories may contain the following hazards: • Ionizing and non-ionizing radiation • Biohazards • Lasers • Chemicals • Compressed gases • Cryogenics Laboratories use signage to indicate hazards which are present and safety requirements. SLSL Safety Orientation Whenever hazardous operations are being conducted in an SF laboratory, the Danger Do Not Enter door hanger must be placed on the outside (door handle) of the laboratory entrance and at other points of ingress into the laboratory. The door hangers are to warn that hazardous operations are in progress and restrict access. If entrance into the laboratory is required, contact the Laboratory Point of Contact. The Laboratory Point of Contact is responsible for removing the warning when hazardous operations have been completed.

SLSL Safety Orientation Laboratory Rules All work in a lab must be covered by a Test Plan and Process Hazard Analysis or Ground Safety Data Package Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Safety glasses are required in all laboratories and whenever working with liquids or particulates • Closed-toed, non-porous shoes and long pants are required in all laboratories • Additional PPE may be required. Refer to the MSDS or Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) for additional information or contact your Supervisor to evaluate your process. Food and Drink are prohibited in laboratories Safety Showers - Prior to laboratory operations, locate the nearest safety shower/eyewash station

SLSL Safety Orientation Waste Management Mandatory training is required prior to handling and/or generating hazardous or biohazardous materials and wastes: • Hazard Communication • Biohazardous Waste • Hazardous Waste • Blood Borne Pathogens A Process Waste Questionnaire (PWQ) will need to be submitted to Facility Manager at least 10 days prior to waste generation Containers must be labeled with the words “Waste” or “Spent” and the contents; such as “Waste acetone, toluene, and isopropyl alcohol”.

  24. SLSL Safety Orientation Users supplying their own computers must coordinate access with the CSS-Dynamac Information Technology contact. • You must have current anti-virus software and definitions • Ensure that you have administrative privileges on your computer
