  5. 5 of 12 Big North (Arica-Parinacota, Tarapacá and Antofagasta) The Big North is a land full of contrasts, where the dryness and barrenness of the Atacama Desert is broken by the fertility of its valleys and oases It is a zone with a wide biological variety of flora and fauna. It is also a land full of archeological and cultural wealth Highlights: • Azapa Valley • Pica Oasis • Lauca National Park • Surire salt flat • Valley of the Moon • The Tatio Geysers and Mamiña thermal springs • San Pedro de Atacama and Putre

  6. 6 of 12 Small North (Atacama and Coquimbo) The arid desert of the north starts to disappear and is replaced by the transversal valleys of Coquimbo. Highlights • Pan de Azúcar National Park with its wide range of wild flora and fauna • Nevado de Tres Cruces National Park with its salt lakes at high altitudes • Gabriela Mistral’s hometown, Vicuña • Having the clearest skies of the southern hemisphere, the Small North Region hosts important astronomical observatories: El Tololo and La Silla, among others

  7. 7 of 12 Central Chile (Valparaiso, Santiago, O’Higgins and Maule) Most of the administrative, economic, political and cultural centers of Chile are located in this region. Highlights: • Ski centers: Farellones, Portillo and Valle Nevado * Juan Fernández National Park, with its unique ecological system * Easter Island (Rapa Nui) with its worldwide famous Moais

  8. 8 of 12 Chilean Islands • Easter Island, one of the most remote places on Earth, with its mysterious Moai sculptures and ancient traditions, offers visitors a once in a a lifetime experience • Chiloe Island, famous for its wild nature, is home to Chilean myths and traditions. The churches of Chiloe, built entirely in native timber, were declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 2000.

  9. The south of Chile (Bio Bio, Araucanía, Los Lagos, Los Ríos) This area is one of the most heterogeneous in terms of the landscape. It is covered with thick woods as well as lakes and lagoons Concepcion, the capital city of the Bio Bio Region, home of UDEC. The city is an important industrial and timber center and the second city of the country, in size and importance. Highlights: • Termas de Chillán Sky Center • Conguillio National Park • Pucón and Villarrica • The city of Valdivia home to the remains of the Spanish fortresses in Niebla and Corral . 9 of 12

  10. 10 of 12 North Patagonia Including part of the Lakes Region and Aysen, perhaps this area's most attractive feature is its unexplored and unmapped character Highlights: • Carretera Austral • National Parks of Alerce Andino and Hornopirén • San Rafael Lagoon • General Carrera Lake • Baker River, located to the north of Cochrane, is a paradise for fly-fishing lovers

  11. 11 of 12 SOUTH PATAGONIA From Campo de Hielo Sur to the Chilean Antarctic Territory, this is one of the most spectacular areas of the planet. It comprises the twelfth administrative region of Magallanes and the Chilean Antarctic Highlights: • Torres del Paine National Park: A land of lagoons, lakes, glaciers and snowcaps, as well as a great variety of species endemic to Chile • Cueva del Milodón, a Natural Monument, where remains of an extinct prehistoric animal were found • Cabo de Hornos National Park
