  3. What is OXE and Why Pledge? Omega Chi Epsilon (OXE) is the National Chemical Engineering Honor Society. OXE’s Mission • Recognition • Recognize excellence in ChE • Investigation • Promote original investigation and innovation • Service • Provide service to ChE Dept. and its student body • Camaraderie • Promote camaraderie among fellow chemical engineers • Professionalism • Promote honesty, integrity, and social responsibility: the hallmarks of professional ethics

  4. What Does OXE Do? General Meetings Peer Tutoring/Advising Fun Service & Social Events Faculty Firesides Provide Snacks/Drinks …and much more!

  5. Invitation Requirements • Invitations sent out in the beginning of every semester • Passed ChE 317 (Upper Division) prior to pledging • Top 1/5 of Junior or 1/5 of Senior ChE Class

  6. Pledge Requirements • Fill out Intent to Pledge form (today). • Come to all 4 meetings. • Hold office hours (2 hrs/week). • Attend at least 2 service events. • Volunteer at Burger Plate. • Attend at least 3 social events. • Make at least 1 faculty fireside. • Present a research inquiry. • Pay one time dues of $50. • Be initiated at OXE Induction (Last Day of Classes – May 6 at 3pm) Don’t be put on notice! We want you to join OXE!

  7. Office Hours • Be in the OXE room for 2 hours per week. • Log in your hours and stock the fridge! • Help anyone that needs help or tutoring. • Do your own homework when not tutoring… …or meet people! Stock me!

  8. Faculty Firesides & Research Inquiries • Purpose: To interact our awesome ChE faculty! • Visit ChE professors at their homes. • Enjoy a nice dinner and talk about life. • Learn about their research or industry experience. • Four firesides this semester with: Dr. Sanchez, Dr. Eldridge, Dr. Schmidt, and Dr. Ellison • Space is limited – so sign up ASAP. • More information to come about the Research Inquiry!

  10. Engineer’s Day at the Museum • Saturday, Feb. 19th • 11:30am-2:30pm (meet in front of CPE at 10:30am to ride the bus) • Earn OXE Eweek points! • Help kids learn about science and engineering through fun, hands-on activities! • Pledges: this is a great way to complete a service event early!

  11. Donate Water Bottles to OXE! • We will use them for our booth at Explore UT. • Leave in container by McKetta Room and bring by OXE room.

  12. Upcoming Social Events • Happy Hour • Today - after the meeting! • Crown & Anchor • Everyone is welcome. • BYOB • Yogurt Social • This Sunday (Feb. 13) , 5:00 PM • Juicy Tart – West Campus on 24th Street (2nd floor)

EWeek • Starts a week from Today (Feb. 18-26) • Airplane Flying Contest • As a pledge, you can get 1 social point for every 3 EWeek events that you attend on behalf of OXE. • Everyone welcome! • Those who are super involved – can attend Salt Lick Banquet at the end. • Events will be posted soon: http://sec.engr.utexas.edu/eweek/

  14. Want to be a part of National Instruments LabVIEW Training Course and Get Certified in LabVIEW? If so, attend the first training session on February 20th from 2- 4 PM in CPE 2.210 please contact, Kristine Rivera at kristine.rivera@ni.com Hope to see you all there!

  15. Look for Our Emails! Pledges: Katy will be contacting you all via email with a summary of the requirements and a link to our website, where you can check your pledging status!   16. Before you go… Fill out an Intent to Pledge form. Sign up for social/service events. Get a social event completed - follow us to Crown & Anchor for Happy Hour!
