  2. American Streets. The diagram shows part of an American city street system with the streets running North–South and East–West. The blocks of buildings are square and each side is 48 m long. The streets are 22 m wide including sidewalks.

  3. X Y American Streets A boy lives on the corner of a block at point X and his girlfriend lives at corner Y. One day the boy decided to walk to his girlfriend's house from his own house. There are many different routes he can take.

  4. Investigate the different possible routes and hence find the shortest route

  5. Solutions (1) XA = 118 AY = 188 XAY = 306

  6. (2)XA = 48 AB = 52·8 BC = 52·8 CY = 118 XY = 271·6

  7. (3) XA = 48 AB = 120·0 BC = 52·8 CY = 48 XY = 268·8

  8. (4) XA = 48 AB = 189·3 BY = 48 XY = 285·3

  9. (5) XA = 48 AB = 120·0 BY = 118 XY = 286·0

  10. (6) XA = 48 AB = 52·8 BC = 52·8 CD = 52·8 DY = 48 XY = 254·4 Shortest Route !!!!
