  4. Commas • There are three main times to use commas correctly. 90% of the time you will ever have to use a comma it will fit under one of these three times. (Dates, Places, and Quotations aren’t included in these main three.)

  5. 1. Use commas to separate independent clauses when they are joined by any of these seven coordinating conjunctions: and, but, for, or, nor, so, yet. 8. 3. Use commas where there is a natural pause. • B. Use a pair of commas in the middle of a sentence to set off clauses, phrases, and words that are not essential to the meaning of the sentence. Use one comma before to indicate the beginning of the pause and one at the end to indicate the end of the pause • Chelsea, Mr. Chappell’s beautiful wife, is very talented. • The Legend of Zelda, which is my favorite video game, tests your skill with the sword and your brain. • Rugby, which is very similar to football, is a game with lots of injuries.

  9. 3. Use commas where there is a natural pause. • C. Use commas to separate two or more coordinate adjectives that describe the same noun. Be sure never to add an extra comma between the final adjective and the noun itself or to use commas with non-coordinate adjectives. • Bella’s pale, emotional, and needy boyfriend is somehow attractive to her. • My very educated, talented mother just made us pizza. • Tony Stark’s clever, loyal butler is named Jarvis.
