  2. Renaissance spread across Europe • Southern Renaissance (Italy) focused on classical antiquity with its worldly values • Northern Renaissance focused on renewed Christianity and biblical studies. • Renaissance was an elite movement far removed from the masses

  3. North vs. South • Both focused on the individual • Northernfocused on individual in a religious or communal setting; Focused on the hardships of life • Southernstressed the individual in secular, commercial, and urban scenes • THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS!
