2. Introduction • Describe the context of your study • Why is your study relevant? Cite previous research that studied similar problems • Research question • Your research question should ask about the effect your independent variable (intervention) on your dependent variable (behavior or product of the behavior of interest). • Write your research question in descriptive behavior analytic language • If your intervention is a package, label it as a package and describe the components in the Independent Variable section. • Remember to state the research question in the form of an open ended question like “What is the effect of ____ on ___?” or “How ___ affects ____?” instead of yes, no questions like “Is treatment ___ effective?”

Method • Participants • Describe the participants of your study • Setting/apparatus • Describe the place(s) that your study occurs • Describe the materials that you use in your study • Independent Variable • The independent variable is your intervention. State what you will do to change the behavior of interest. • If you don’t know exactly what part of the intervention is having an effect, you should state that your independent variable is a package • Dependent Variable • Your dependent variable is what you want to change with your intervention (the behavior of interest or a product of that behavior) • State your dependent variable quantitatively, in a way that you can observe and count • Make a descriptive behavioral definition of the behavior of interest or a clear description of the product of the behavior of interest that you are measuring • If you are changing components of a complex skill, describe each behavior that you are measuring as dependent variables

Method • Design • State what is your research design • Data collection • State the data collection method that you will use and why • Procedure • The procedures section is a more detailed description of how you are testing the effects of the independent variable on the dependent variable • State the order of the conditions • Describe, step by step, what happens in each condition

5. Graph • Include a labeled graph showing how you would present your data • Look some graphs in JABA • Your graph must contain: • A relevant title, usually stating the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable • Condition labels (i.e. Baseline, Treatment I, Reversal and Treatment II) • Axis labels • Phase change lines • Break data path across the lines

8. Results • In the results section, DESCRIBE your data quantitatively. • Describe what your graph shows about your hypothetical data • Remember, you should not interpret your data in the results section

9. Conclusions • Relate the results of your study to the literature that you reviewed in your introduction

10. References • You must use at least 5 references • Look at the references section in some JABA articles and use the same format to write your references (or refer to APA Publication Manual)
