  2. What you will learn during this session: What are Trackables? Travel Bugs Geocoins Other trackables… What to do with trackables? How do I find a trackable? How to log Activated or Unactivated? Trackable etiquette?

  3. Travel Bugs • A Travel Bug is a registered trademark of Groundspeak, Inc. used to describe a dog tag used in Geocaching. It is moved from cache to cache, and its travels can be logged on the geocaching website (www.geocaching.com).

  4. Geocoin • A geocoin is a metal or wooden coin minted in similar fashion to a medallion, token coin, military challenge coin or wooden nickel, for use in geocaching. Some geocoins are trackable on the internet using a serial number and website address engraved on the coin.

  5. Promotional Travel Bugs • Groundspeak has created five different series of promotional travel bugs, each with a unique icon. • Each year from 2004 to 2007, Jeep has sponsored a contest, the Jeep 4X4 Geocaching Challenge • In late 2006, "Unite for Diabetes" travel bugs were released by volunteers throughout the world.

  6. How do I find a trackable? http://www.geocaching.com/track/geocoin.aspx

  7. How do I log a trackable? Step 1. Get the Tracking Number Number is on the trackable usually near wording “trackable at geocaching.com” Step 2. Visit the Travel Bug's Page Enter the tracking number on http://www.geocaching.com/track Step 3. Found it? Log it! Grab or Discover Enter the tracking number a second time

  8. Activated or Unactivated? There are people that leave unactivated trackables (usually geocoins) in caches as gifts/swag for others to find. When you find a trackable enter the code as shown. If the codes indicates it is not activated got back to the cache page to see if the coin is in the cache. Double checking to make sure you entered the number correctly 1, l and I look similar, 0 and O look similar and tracking numbers on coins can sometimes be very small. Review logs to see if there is any indication of the trackable being left. After all this, activate and enjoy the coin. If you collect geocoins it is up to you if you want then to be activated. They are usually easier to trade if they are not activated.

  9. Trackable etiquette If you grab it log it. If you don’t see a trackable that is suppose to be in a cache log a note on the item. Try not to hold onto the item for very log unless you let the owner know. If it has a mission please respect the mission and try to help it along. Did I say log it!

  10. Trackable etiquette They are not like other swag you trade for. No need to trade up or trade equal. You and move a trackable any time. They are travelers, please keep them moving.
