  1. Part1 Introduction Databases Inventory of Post-War Situation of Land Resources in Bosnia and Herzegovina

  2. Start of operation: 3rd of July 2000 Overall budget: 1,013,110 USD Inventory of Post-War Situation of Land Resources in Bosnia and Herzegovina

  3. Agricultural Institute of Banja Luka Dept. of Agrochemistry and Agroecology Agropedology Institute of Sarajevo Agronomic Institute of Mostar University National Partners

  4. PROJECT OBJECTIVES • To provide information on land resources, capability and risks as a tool for a better knowledge of the territory and a proper allocation of resources to the agricultural sector. • to reinforce the national institutes: • laboratory, ITand GIS equipment • training staff inthe application of international methodologiesfor the evaluationand interpretation ofdatabases onlandresources

  5. Databases: • Soil and Terrain (SOTER) • Climate • Maps (1:200000): • Land resources • Land cover/use PRODUCTS – primary data

  6. Agro-ecological Zoning • Maps • Model PRODUCTS – secondary data

  7. Mine risk assessment PRODUCTS – secondary data • Agro-ecological Zoning • Maps • Model

  8. Soil and Terrain database – SOTER

  9. Soil and Terrain database – SOTER Relational database – data can be stored and retrieved easily with no duplication The following maps and data have been used to compile the database: ·     Soil map of BiH at 1:50000 ·     Topographic Map of BiH at 1:25000 ·     Geologic Map of BiH at 1:100000 The SOTER methodology has been applied for the first time on the territory of BiH, following the PROCEDURE MANUAL (FAO 1995). The methodology was created for 1:1000000 scale, but can be applied up to 1:100000 scale level.

  10. Soil and Terrain database – SOTER Type of data

  11. SOTER units description • Correlation of national soil classification with FAO classification • Adaptation of datafrom soil map of BIH according to the SOTER guidelines

  12. 2 2 5 4 1 11 6 3 7 10 12 7 9 14 13 8

  13. SOTER database 280 SOTER units about 200.000 parameters profileshorizons • Representative profiles 482 with defined horizons 1.660 • Reference profiles 2.617 with defined horizons 8.342 TOTAL 3.099 10.002

  14. Soil and Terrain database – SOTER Uses and Findings • Statistics on soil and terrain characteristics • Production of thematic maps • Selection of specific data

  15. Climatic database

  16. APT4 Simple table Climatic database Structure

  17. precipitation (mm) • mean temperature (oC) • mean max. temperature (oC) • mean min. temperature (oC) • relative humidity (%) • wind speed (m/s) • insolation (hours) Climatic database Type of data

  18. Banja Luka Bihać Bileća Bijeljina Bjelašnica Bosanska Dubica Bugojno Butmir Doboj Drvar Ivan Sedlo Jajce Kalinovik Livno Mostar Sanski Most Sarajevo Sokolac Tuzla Zenica Climatic database Type of data Data from 20 meteorological stations in BiH (1960 – 2000)

  19. Climatic data analysis Calculation • potential evapotranspiration • water balances • potential biomass and yield • mechanised farming • biological farming • inputs for AEZ (GIS)
