Expectations for Course Registration Night Course Registration Nights in April - dates will be announced in March • Students can log in to register on either their RenWeb or their parent’s RenWeb account during their specific time. Students can register at home or at WCS in room 226 (computer lab) • Students will choose classes from their core requirements (if applicable) and their preference of electives. • There is a timestamp when students register for classes that is used when prioritizing students in electives.
Class Load Per Day • Students need at least 6.5 classes per day (minimum 6 classes one sem/7 classes the next sem) for graduation • Online Learning class (VHS or Dual Enrollment) does not count towards this minimum. • Be mindful that Impact, Choir, Band, & Orchestra, meet every other day and are worth 1.25 credits per year. Teacher Aide/Office Aide has a varying credit worth depending on the individualized experience • Try to limit yourself to 1 study hall per day
Sophomore Course Registration English: English 10 or Honors English 10 - (full year) Humanities: AP Government (full year) or Government (semester) Science: Biology or Honors Biology- (full year) Math: Algebra 2 CP 1 or Geometry (CP 1 or CP 2)- (full year) (Students can double up and take Algebra 2 CP1 and Geometry CP1 if recommended by teacher) Foreign Language: Spanish 2 or Honors Spanish 2- (full year) Bible: (see Curriculum Guide) (Semester) Technology: Computer Science 1 - (Semester) Physical Education: PE (Semester) Electives (2.5 credit Fine Arts requirement for graduation)
Online Learning Opportunities VHS- Many different classes offered through Virtual High School Dual Enrollment- Freshman level courses, partnership with Cedarville University, Geneva College, Gordon College, and Southeastern University Does not count as one of the 6.5 classes Independent work Semester or full year Graduation requirement Additional courses are not figured into GPA, but are given transfer credit and are listed on transcript.
Concentrations Are you passionate about math? Do you love writing? Are you a science geek? Do you see yourself going into business management? We offer concentrations in several areas which will be noted on your transcript. Life Science English Mathematics Computer Science Business Visual Arts General Science Bible
Math Placement Students will be placed in the appropriate math course based on • current math level/grade • current math teacher’s recommendation • course prerequisites • student’s work ethic Prerequisites can be found in the curriculum guide. Rising sophomores should discuss their options with their math teacher prior to registration.
Honors and AP Requirements • AP courses are college level courses taught over a full year of high school. They move at an accelerated pace and require significant amount of work outside the classroom. • Honors courses/components are also taught at an accelerated pace and require independent learning. • Students enrolling in an AP/Honors Course or Component must meet the prerequisite requirements. Please check the curriculum guide as each course has its own set of prerequisites. • It is recommended that students take AT MOST 3 AP courses at a time due to the increased workload. Exceptions will be considered on a case by case basis.
Honors and AP Requirements • Many AP courses and Honors Components require participation outside the school day such as before school meetings, evening review sessions, and Saturday mock exams. Please make sure you ask about and understand the requirements for the course you are choosing before you enroll. • Students are REQUIRED to take the AP Exam if they take an AP course. • Students are not allowed to drop an AP course after registration without going through an appeal process.

Let’s look at each a little closer... Applications * You’ll fill out early in your senior year * Are you thinking about what kinds of schools to which you might apply? * Local or away from home? Large or small? * Christian? Private? Public? * Sports, music, art, * What do you want from your college experience?
The High School Transcript *By mid sophomore year (three semesters), you’ll have built ½ of your college app GPA! *Work hard now!!! *Colleges look at what is offered at your school and did you take advantage of what is offered there, not your neighbor schools.
Recommendations *You’ll need 2-3 teachers who can write well about you. *Get to know your teachers, help them get to know you. *If you have shared a bit of yourself with teachers, they can write with more detail and enthusiasm! *If you have done well in his or her classes, it makes it so much easier for teachers to write. *You’ll be filling out a resume of activities in Naviance, our Guidance College Application program. This gives teachers more information about you.
Entrance Tests - SAT *SAT is a college entrance test. Most students here take it in the spring of Junior year and again in the fall of Senior year. *You will take the PSAT (smaller version of the SAT) in Grades 10 and 11 in October. Great practice for SAT. *Studies show by taking the PSAT twice your scores will be higher. The best way to prepare for these tests is to do well in classes, read higher level materials, and take prep courses shortly before the test. *The ACT is similar to the SAT. Some students take that in addition or instead of the SAT. Colleges will accept either test.

The 10 Commandments for Successful Students! 2. Take challenging courses (AP, Honors). *Stretch yourself! *Show colleges you are willing to be challenged. *Take a solid course load. *Balance is key. Know yourself. What can you handle?
The 10 Commandments for Successful Students! 3. Get involved! *Make friends, gain confidence and skills. *Show colleges that you’ll contribute to their communities. *Activities that involve commitment are best. *Develop your passions and interests in life.

Colleges want to invest in leaders! *Captain of a team, class officer, student council rep, service project leader, church leader, job
The 10 Commandments for Successful Students! 5. Learn to serve! *Grow in compassion, awareness of needs… make your community a better place! *College loves student who are service minded! *Do more than the required service hours… *Perhaps create a service project… *Scholarships look for service

Drugs, alcohol, smoking, vaping affect your health and reputation. *Healthy choices will pay off in the long term. *Colleges look at social media - think before you post
The 10 Commandments for Successful Students! 8. Start thinking about a college major. *What are your gifts, abilities, passions? *What would excite you to get up in the morning and go to work? *How can you serve God with your gifts? *What classes will help you develop those gifts?
The 10 Commandments for Successful Students! 9. Find time for yourself. *Rest. Enjoy. Plan for free time. *Schedule some personal time for reading, hobbies, movies, friends, family. *Discipline and balance in life are key qualities to learn.
The 10 Commandments for Successful Students! 10. Grow in your faith now. *You have a chance here to learn a LOT about God and His plan for your life while at WCHS. *Read Scripture. Pray regularly. Learn from chapels, classes, friends, and teachers. *Now is a great time to grow in your walk with God!
