There are many healthy natural products that are on the market today thanks to our expanding global economy. • What was once regional medicine and health benefits are now being enjoyed around the world. • One of the more interesting substances that have grown in popularity in recent years is lemongrass essential oil.

What is Lemongrass Essential Oil? • Lemongrass is not lemons, but a grass that actually has a similar smell although it is milder and far less sour. • This substance is used in many beverages as well as desserts and other treats as well. • Lemongrass makes an excellent substitute for lemons when they cannot be readily found or if a sweeter, milder taste is desired.

  4. The essential oil that is derived from lemongrass includes the following substances • Citronellal and Myrcene • Geranyl Acetate and Nerol Geraniol • Neral, Citral and Limonene • These elements form the basis of the lemongrass essential oil which offers many benefits.

How is It Created? • A process known as steam distillation extracts the essential oil from lemongrass. • The grass is dried first and then exposed to steam to pull out the essential oils. • Lemongrass is a widely used product in Thai and Chinese recipes because of its taste and availability. • The grass itself grows very quickly and it is a very common item in the street markets, fetching a good price for shop owners.
