Outcome activity: Write an extended explanation answering the enquiry question.

The WSPU 5. The WFL Using what you have learned so far, come up with a class definition of what each group was fighting for. Could you fight for more than one of these things at once?

  6. Why would different people fight for suffrage? What kinds of beliefs might influence them? What kinds of experiences might influence them? How might other people influence them?

  7. Key people and why they joined Activity: Database research Your challenge is to use a database to research different people who took part in the suffrage movement. You may need to use all of the information in the database and your imagination to decide their reasons for joining the movement. Think back to the possible reasons discussed at the start of the lesson if you get stuck. • Tasks: • 1.) You will be given a sheet of names. You will then have to pick one name from each column. • 2.) Use the database to find out about the people you have picked and use the information to fill in the cards on your sheet. • 3.) You will need to look at the following fields: • Name • Family and education • Suffrage groups they were members of • Whether they were arrested or whether they signed the 1866 petition • Details of suffrage activity
