CSOs as a resource • Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) catalyse the interest and the needs of citizens and they have the power to bring them to the attention of the Local Authorities (LAs). • How can this happen and be improved? • How CSOs can make the difference in the decision making process and promote a good local governance?

CSOs as a resource The objectives and tasks of the Novo Mesto Association as CSO: • Promiotion of public interest in the actions at the local community • Commitment to more tidy and cultural image of the town • Striving for quality and healthy life and a healthy and clean environment • Promotion of cultural and social activities • Promotion of the public interest before narrow benefits

CSOs as a resource Modes of operation: • Organization of round tables and discussions • Issuing newsletters and publishing • Eengaging in public debate • Cooperation with related CSOs • Participating in the elections and integration in the local authorities (Municipal council) • Integration into the European CSOs projects

  5. CSOs as a resource Some examples of good practice: • preventing harmful interventions • contributing to better regulation and tidiness (construction of new walkways)
