  2. What is an Honors education? • An enriched path through the University general education requirements • An enhanced experience in your major • A more diverse and well-rounded academic experience

  3. Am I qualified to be an Honors student? All students admitted to BYU are invited to participate in the Honors Program. Your level of participation is determined by your interest, desire, and commitment.

  4. Honors courses • Thursday seminar • Fall Conference/Spring Symposium • Social, Service, and Great Works Activities What percentage of BYU students participate in the Honors Program? About 33% of BYU students are involved in Honors for at least one semester.

  5. What percentage of BYU students graduate with University Honors? Less than 2% of BYU graduates are awarded the distinction of University Honors. The key to graduating with Honors is starting early and having a plan.

  6. Requirements: Curriculum Complete at least 22 credits of Honors coursework. These must include: • A minimum of 10 Honors Program (HONRS) credits • An Honors first-year writing course (AP/IB credit does not satisfy this requirement.)

  7. Math AND Foreign Language Requirements: Complete two semesters of foreign language (or equivalent) and one of the approved math classes • AP, IB, and transfer credit or a placement exam can satisfy these requirements. • Honors sections of these classes are not required.

  8. Requirements: Great Works • From the Great Works list, complete 12 experiences in each of the following categories: music, film, art, literature, theater, and science and technology • Record the experiences in your Great Works Log • Write 2 short response papers for each category (for a total of 12 papers)

  9. Requirements: Service Participate in a significant service experience, either through one large project or smaller contributions over a period of time.

  10. Requirements: GPA Graduate with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5

  11. Requirements: Graduation Portfolio • Great Works log and responses • Summary of service • Transcript • Brief semester summaries • Samples of best academic work

  12. Requirements: Thesis • Complete mentored research or capstone project in your major • Defend thesis • Prepare thesis for binding
