  1. Mullet River Monitoring Michael , Jeremy, Jamie, Emily

  2. Phosphates • We had Phosphate level of 0 so that is good because if there was a bad Phosphate level because it would be causing the plants to overgrow and take up all the oxygen.

  3. Turbidity • We had a level of 3ft 6in for the Turbidity which is ok for our location because other locations have 1ft 10in which is bad because you could only see a foot down into the river.

  4. Total Solids • We had a total solids level of 7000mg/L which is bad because the solids are bacteria which are harmful to the plants and animals because the bacteria release methane. But we also got a average of 2500mg/L which is good because drinking water is 500mg/L. Before the water evaporated it weighed 119 grams. After the water evaporated it weighed 118.3 grams. Then after subtracting we got .7 grams of total solids then we had to multiply the water that evaporated.

  5. Macro Invertebrates

  6. Up River / Down river • Up River- Up river the water is colder and there is a stronger current so there would be more oxygen so more things that live there. • Down River- Down river there is less oxygen because its warmer water and there isn't a strong current. There also aren't a lot of rocks down river.

  7. Overall health of the river? • The overall health of the river is okay we got a level of 7 for the pH which is neutral so it’s not that bad. We got a phosphate level of 0 that means there are no phosphates in the river which is a good thing. Phosphates are chemicals that are in in rain and fertilizers and they cause vegetation like algae to overgrow because the phosphates fertilizes it so it overgrow and takes up the oxygen in the river so the other plants die. But we also got a Total Solids level of 7,000 mg/L which is bad because the solids are Bacteria which releases Methane that is poisonous for some of the plants and animals. But we also got a level of 2000mg/L which is good because 1000mg/L means that you can drink the water.

  8. Solutions • A solution for the Mullet River problem is to drudge the river. Drudging the river would get rid of the bottom of the river to make it deeper and to take out all of the bacteria that release methane. The problem with this solution is that it would cost a lot of money and they would have to do it twice because they wont get all of the bacteria out. But we could also just leave it the way it is and hope that things get better but that would be bad because it would take a really long time and chances are it wouldn’t work. • We could also take out the dam so there could be more current so the temperature would be colder and so it could hold more oxygen.
