Go from Passive to Active after Knee Replacement
Knee Problem Hi, I am Prema. I used to suffer so much from a knee problem. To be exact, for the last 6 years. And in the last couple of years it became very bad. But I was working. I was normal, and I was going through the day. I am a very active person. In the last 6 months, the deterioration became severe, and around October to November it became unbearable. I couldn’t even climb 2-3 stairs. I had tried everything like Ayurvedic massages, acupuncture, physiotherapy, water exercises, and everything. Since nothing worked, the pain was getting worse, and the painkillers were not enough to suppress the pain, someone suggested Kauvery hospital and Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj. So I went and met him. He looked at my X rays and MRIs and he said “You are right. You definitely need a surgery since it has very badly deteriorated. You can take your time and think about it.”It took me a month, and to be very frank I was very scared. To give up your God-given knee and going for an artificial one is not a joke.
But I had to do it, and I gathered the courage. On March 2nd, 2017, I had the surgery. About the pain level, immediately after the surgery, there were people who gave wrong idea saying that the pain will be unbearable and all. But I was there for some days, and the hospital staff treated me very well. Yes, there was pain, but I managed it quite well. I was very comfortable and second or third day they made me walk with the walker. That moment when I actually stood up and walked with the walker was a great moment, and I was crying with joy.
When I came home, I could walk the length of the corridor, and that was a moment of amazing joy because I knew I could walk. I got discharged and came home, and within 3 or 4 days, I threw away my walker. I started walking with my knee, which is very good. My physiotherapist from the hospital comes every day for 1 hour. It is now 45 days, and I am still doing my physiotherapy. For suture removal, I went without my walker. After 30 days, I started going out for movies, social gatherings, as usual lunch, and dinner. Nobody would have guessed I had a problem except my very close friends, and the doctor only knows that I had my surgery. Today, I have been telling people and even put FB message because of want to create awareness about the surgery.
It is not a scary thing, and it is going to improve your lifestyle because it has improved mine. Today I am walking, and my life is back to normal. I am now absolutely sure about putting my leg forward and climbing the stairs wherever I go. So I want to tell any of you who is scared to do the surgery, don’t be. I am the living proof. Yeah, I had the surgery, and I am walking now. Following me, my friend had this in the same hospital, and she had both the knees done. She is also okay. She started going out. So I think it’s a truly amazing story because for me it was a major thing. I don’t want any of you going through this to suffer this pain unnecessarily. There is a relief. Please go ahead.
