June 2008 – Meeting with Data Center Company at Fremont Center • Yahoo was looking at Fremont and Omaha for new Data Center • Google locates in Council Bluffs, IA • Microsoft locates in Des Moines, IA • Big issue for Data Center builders was no training • Two years earlier we redesigned the whole INFO curriculum. July 2008 – Meeting with College President about Data Center • The Data Center company was no longer with us. • College decided to move on with project • The President set a deadline for course development as January 1, 2009 • Heart attack time. • Core courses save the day MCC INFO data center timeline
July / August 2008 – Faculty meet • Jamie Bridgham, James Johnson, Steve Hall, and Ted Tucker • What is a Data Center? • We started taking tours of Data Centers • Electronic opt out of project (say goodbye to Steve) • Ray Baumann join the group • Hardware? • IBM and HP and APC • Work starts on Fremont Area Center MCC INFO data center timeline
August / January – Courses and Course Description identified and written • Degree added to next year catalog. • Faculty divide up courses and start writing course outlines. • Made the Presidents deadline • Delays on the work at the Fremont Area Center • Start looking for a temporary home • ATC comes to the rescue MCC INFO data center timeline
September / Now – Hardware time • Started working on Rack and Blade Center Configurations ( IBM and HP) • May – Attended Commons in Reno • Gain a lot of information and contacts • Work on IBM Configuration (2 systems) • Work on HP configuration • Work on IBM configuration again • Work on HP configuration again • Add Macintosh MCC INFO data center timeline
Current Times – Configurations DONE! • Planning and design taking shape • Data Center courses (second year level) start this fall • DOL Approves Grant Equipment Purchase 7-16-09 • Will move into the Fremont Area Center Data Center in November. MCC INFO data center timeline
First to arrive was the 3 Apple xServe servers that will be used by the Operating Systems I and II classes Next the 3 HP Cabinets arrive at the Applied Training Center (ATC) Apple and HP Equipment Arrives
