  1. The XMM-Newton cross-calibration campaign M.G.F. Kirsch, A.M.T. Pollock, B.Chen, M.Smith M.M. Sierra, L. Metcalfe, B. Altieri

  2. EPIC and RGS ratio

  3. menu • objectives • schedule • methods • outcome (so far)

  4. objectives • systematic XSA data mining • public CCFs and SAS • 25targets, 200observations • line-rich spectra RGS  EPIC • continuum spectra EPIC  RGS

  5. schedule • 2003/05: start of campaign • 2003/07: start of data analysis • 2003/09: first results • 2003/11: Chandra exchange • 2004/05: Green Paper • 2004/07: White Paper

  6. targets treated • line-rich sources: • SNR 1E0102-7219 (8) • AB Dor (8) • SNR N132D (14) • Capella (6) • continuum sources • PKS2155-304 (9) • PKS0558-504 (4) • RXJ1856.6-3754 (1) • RXJ0720.4-3125 (6) • RXJ0806.4-4123 (3)

  7. methods • extraction • pile-up check • flare screening • source and background extraction • response matrix generation • modelling • assessment

  8. results: PKS2155-304 • Model: constant *wabs *powerlawwhere constants for RGS are free (0.91,0.89), all other parameters are fitted simultaneously • up to ± 20% differences in flux • same trend also observed for PKS0558-504

  9. results: AB Dor • Model: constant *wabs *(vmekal+bremss)where constants for RGS are free (0.85,0.87), all other parameters are fitted simultaneously • the spectrum’s many lines are not perfectly fit but the model is good enough for this comparison • up to ± 20% differences in flux
