  1. Welcome!Mrs. Haworth5th Grade *** Please don’t forget to sign-in at the back table. Have a seat at your child’s desk. Thank you. *** “A child educated only at school is an uneducated child.”  ~George Santayana Thursday August 30th, 2012

  2. Weekly Schedule

  3. Guideline Highlights • Management plan, policies, rewards, and consequences • I will keep in contact regarding student behavior both negative and positive • Positive notes home, group points, daily praise, opportunities to help • Parent signature needed for being benched (behavior or academic), I will email as well • Tardies: School begins at 8:00am, the first bell rings at 7:55am. Students who are not in line for prayer by 8:00am will be sent to the office to receive a tardy slip. Three tardies means an after school detention. Same schedule for Mass!

  4. Grading • English, Reading, Spelling, Math, Social Studies, Handwriting, and Religion are on an ‘A-F’ scale. • Final grades are awarded on a points based system. Points earned divided by points possible equal your child’s final grade. • Reading: The following are the required amount of points students must earn each trimester, should they not meet the minimum requirement this will bring down the final Reading grade. • - 1st trimester: 8 points minimum • - 2nd trimester: 10 points minimum • - 3rd trimester: 12 points minimum • Technology and alternative assessment will be incorporated cross-curriclar!

  5. Homework Excuse and “While You Were Out” Notes • Any time your child has not turned in their homework, or any assignment for that matter, they will receive a slip to fill out asking why they didn’t turn it in. I ask that you please sign this after it is completely filled out, and send it back to school the next day with the completed assignment attached. Zero tolerance for missing work: your child will have one night to finish and turn in a missing assignment. If it’s not turned in the next day, they will spend their recess, lunch, and/or after school finishing their assignment. • “While You Were Out” is the form your child will receive when he or she is absent. This will have all of the day’s information including homework and classwork. Students have the number of days they were absent beyond the due date to turn in the missed work without being late. Please sign this form with the completed work when it is time to turn in.

  6. Materials Please be sure to check in with your child about their supplies, and make sure they are stocked throughout the year. Thank you. Vacations It really is in the best interest of your child to be in school everyday. Please schedule vacations, and other reasons for being out of school, for days off. We really appreciate your cooperation.

  7. Uniforms • Uniforms are checked every morning • You will be asked to sign a dress code infraction form, and return it to school, should your child be out of uniform • On all school Mass days children should be in full uniform with green collared shirts with new logo

  8. Class Web Sitehttp://MrsHaworth.MyTeacherSite.org *** Please sign up for email updates from the class website! On the home/welcome page there is a gray envelope in the top right corner, click, enter email, and you will receive notifications. ***

  9. Extra Help When students ask for help I am always happy to oblige during recess, lunch, and after school when I’m available!

  10. Power School • It is IMPERATIVE you check Power School at least once per week. • Sign up for weekly email updates of your child’s grades.

  11. Building Student Responsibility • 5th Grade is a challenging year for a number of reasons, one of which is the transition to Junior High. It is a year of preparation and building responsibility to become even more independent. • One of the major ways in which we do that this year is using the agendas. At the end of every day we copy homework and announcements in our agendas together and discuss. • It’s important that parents use the web site homework updates and information as a second resource, and first expect your children to know and have it written down. I ask that you please use the web site and other school resources for information to double check what your children have written down and tell you. When you are giving them the information it doesn’t give them the opportunity to be responsible for it first.

  12. Suggestions For Your Consideration • ITBS testing begins the week of Monday Sept. 17th, and goes through the first two days of the following week. We ask that you consider the following during testing and throughout the entire school year. • Adequate sleep • Healthy and filling breakfast, snack, and lunch
