  2. Introduction Tuvalu

  3. Funafuti View from the top Ocean dark blue, Lagoon opposite side.

  4. In terms of physical land size, at just 26 square kilometers (10 sq mi) • Tuvalu is the fourth smallest country in the world, • Land is Less than 3meter above sea level. • Population is 10,619 (July 2011) • Sign thetreatyfor recognizing global warming in 1992 • Culturesstronghold and believers

  5. Effect on Tuvalu • coastal erosion and inundation, • coral bleaching, • changes in fisheries distribution and abundance, • saline contamination of freshwater, increasing risk of disease, • and declining agricultural productivity.

  6. Climate Change Tuvalu Prime-Minister 2003 Hon SaufatuSopoagaon his presentation at the UN annual conference; Quote; "We live in constant fear of the adverse impacts of climate change. For a coral atoll nation, sea level rise and more severe weather events loom as a growing threat to our entire population. The threat is real and serious, and is of no difference to a slow and insidious form of terrorism against us.” .

  7. Earth Warming But still World’s warming is inescapable. The fact that warming will increase accelerate in 2050, what would be left of Tuvalu

  8. GLOBAL WARMING vs Tuvalu

  9. The cross section model of an Atoll Island like Funafuti. • Ground water grey • Salinity will increase in ground water as sea rises • Impact low land fertility-poor land then-Low domestic supply- POOR Life

  10. Welcome to Tuvalu in Global warming

  11. Recently observed change in Arctic temperatures and sea ice cover may be a harbinger of global climate changes to come, according to a recent NASA study. Satellite data (the unique view from space) are allowing researchers to more clearly see Arctic changes and develop an improved understanding of the possible effect on climate worldwide. • The Arctic warming study, appearing in the November 1 issue of the American Meteorological Society's Journal of Climate, shows that compared to the 1980s, most of the Arctic warmed significantly over the last decade, with the biggest temperature increases occurring over North America. • Warming trends like those found in these studies could greatly affect ocean processes, which, in turn, impact Arctic and global climate, said Michael Steele, senior oceanographer at the University of Washington, Seattle. Liquid water absorbs the Sun's energy rather than reflecting it into the atmosphere the way ice does. As the oceans warm and ice thins, more solar energy is absorbed by the water, creating positive feedbacks that lead to further melting. Such dynamics can change the temperature of ocean layers, impact ocean circulation and salinity, change marine habitats, and widen shipping lanes, Steele said.

  12. From NASA records Side by side comparisons of seaice from 1979 and 2003 in the arctic.

  13. Imagine small area of land in 50 years time like the arctic effects.

  14. Facts proof of Global Warming

  15. A normal high tide at Tuvalu cause way.

  16. Facts of Global Warming

  17. KING TIDE flood

  18. King Tide on Funafuti roads

  19. Tuvalu is one of the places on earth that is most vulnerable to the affects of global warming. The threat of sea level rise may bring complete disaster to the 10,000 Tuvaluans residing on nine extremely low-lying coral atolls. • Although people are aware of Global warming and climate change the Tuvaluan people have strong FAITH that there could be HOPE for all these dilemma- infer that it is only can be undone as always have the world survive for so many years.

  20. Honorable Prime Minister ApisaiIelemia’s speech. • “We have nowhere to run to because our islands are tiny, we just have to prepare ourselves individually, family wise so that they know what to do when a cyclone comes in or a hurricane blows because there is nothing else we can do. There is no mountain we can climb up, there is no other inland where we can run to like in your big countries.”

  21. CONCLUSION • In 50 years time Tuvalu is not an inhabitant island area anymore! • Tuvalu will sink in the future whether or not Global warming has declined. • What would there be for Tuvaluans if no lands to prosper in.
