The existing faculty contact hours policy, 12 years old, has been revised to enhance communication with students. This revised policy sets minimum contact hours, defines modes of communication, and aims to reduce ambiguities. Following a review of 19 similar policies from CSU campuses, a new policy was developed, incorporating past experiences from CSULB and similar institutions. The Faculty Policies and Procedures Committee referred to the new policy as of February 20, 2014.

Policy on Faculty Contact Hours Current policy is 12 years old. The nature and mood of office hours have changed. There was a need to revisit current policy and bring it up to date. The policy was referred to FPPC last fall (Oct. 2013) FPPC reviewed 19 similar policies from other CSU campuses. New policy was developed considering past experiences from CSULB and other similar institutions. The new policy sets minimum number of contact hours; defines modes of contact hours; ways faculty communicate with students; enhances utilization of contact hours; and minimizes ambiguities .
