Welcome Picnic3 July • Who: Math Department • When: Tuesday, July 3rd • Where: COL Phillips’ Residence, 107B Washington Road • RSVP on the Math Database by 2 July • Side dishes and desserts are welcome and needed! • Cost: • New faculty (Free for non-drinkers; $5 for drinkers) • Existing Faculty ($3 for non-drinkers; $8 for drinkers) • Children: By donation…unless drinking Please pay MAJ Wolberg or MAJ Springer

  4. Urban Land NavigationFriday, 13 July Summary: New Faculty will be divided up into teams of 2-3 persons, given a map of West Point, pen/paper, and be asked to navigate to points throughout post. The course is setup to be ran similar to the popular television show, “The Amazing Race.” “Contestants” are asked to pair up based on level of desire to compete. At each point, contestants will have to answer questions on Mathematics or West Point History. Completion of the task will dictate whether the team moves to the next location. The first team to successfully complete the course will be the inaugural winner of the AMATHing Race. • Uniform: Appropriate Athletic Attire (Running/Walking shoes recommended) • Location: Kosciusko’s Statue • Time Line: 0730 Accountability and In-Brief 0740 – 0900 AMATHing Race Competition 0900 Cut off for Completing the Course 0900 Awarding of Trophy

Family Orientation Friday, 13 July Summary: This is an opportunity for the spouses to get acquainted with the Math department and what their faculty member does on a daily basis. • Uniform: Casual (for family members) • Location: Math Library • Time Line: 1000 – 1130 Introduction/Department Overview 1130 – 1300 Family Luncheon (sponsored by the Department Ladies Club) Note: Faculty members will be off to provide childcare from 1000-1130

  6. D/Math Boat RideWednesday, 18 July Summary: Enjoy an early evening boat ride on the Hudson! We will embark for a 2-hour cruise aboard the Superintendant’s boat from South Dock (below Thayer Hall). There will be a pot-luck lunch served on-board. Families welcome! • Uniform: Casual • Location: South Dock • Timeline: 1730-1900 Boarding begins at 1700. Boat Departs at 1730 so don’t be late!

  7. Leader Reaction CourseFriday, 20 July Summary: This event will utilize the Cadet Leadership Reaction Course (LRC). It consists of team challenges similar to those seen on Survivor. New faculty will be divided into two groups and will overcome several obstacles. Points are awarded for successfully completing the assigned tasks within the prescribed time. Loss of equipment or personnel will result in penalty points. The team with the most points at the completion of the event will be declared the winner. • Uniform: Long Pants (e.g. ACU Trousers), Spirit Shirt, and Sturdy Footwear • Location: Leader Reaction Course • Time Line: 0730 Meet on Thayer Roof 0730 – 0745 Travel to LRC 0745 – 0800 LRC In-Brief 0800 – 0945 Conduct Training 0945 – 1000 Transportation to Thayer Roof

  8. Old & New Civilian MixerTuesday, 24 July Summary: Dr. Chris Arney and his wife, Sue, will host an informal get-together for both old and new civilian faculty at 3 Ondaora Park in Highland Falls. • Attire: Casual • Location: 3 Ondaora Park Highland Falls, NY • Timeline: 1700 – UTC

  9. DMI War Simulation CenterWednesday, 25 July Summary: New Faculty will receive a brief on how Cadets are able to use a warfighter simulation program during Military Science courses. The faculty will also be able to participate and experience first hand a “real world” computerized combat scenario in which faculty engage the enemy using M4 rifles. • Uniform: Duty • Location: Washington Hall 6312 • Timeline: 1035-1045 Movement to Washington Hall 1045 - 1145 DMI War Simulation Center Activities

  10. Softball PracticeTuesday, 31 July Summary: Traditionally, there is an old versus new softball game during REORGY week. The new guys never win. This has nothing to do with the tradition that P6 is the umpire. This event is an opportunity for the “new guys” to get acquainted and to brush up their skills in preparation for the game. Trust me, you need the practice… • Uniform: Civilian PTs • Location: MWR Softball Fields Adjacent to PX and Class VI • Timeline: ** If you want to rideshare (or don’t know where to go) ** 0745Meet outside Department Office 0745 – 0800 Movement to Softball Fields ** All ** 0800 – 1000 Softball Practice

ARL TripThursday, 26 July - Friday, 27 July Summary: An opportunity for all new faculty to visit the Army Research Laboratory, tour the facilities over the course of two days, meet the scientists, and investigate possible research areas. Overnight stay involved. This is an optional trip, with the requirement being you participate in this trip one of the summers you are here at the Academy (this trip will be given each summer). • Attire: ACUs / Math Spirit Attire (civilian) • Location: ARL - Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland • Timeline: To Be Published • Remarks: Signup will take place at a later time

  12. Welcome Back BashTime: 16 August Summary: This is the culminating social event of the summer. Come and enjoy the company of the department’s families one last time before classes begin. We will hold a pot-luck bash for all. There will be activities, friendly competition, good food, and great company. Plus, and probably more importantly, take part in the Old v. New Softball Game – this is THE event of the summer. • Uniform: Casual/Civilian PTs • Location: MWR Softball Fields Adjacent to PX and Class VI • Timeline: 1300-1800

  13. Other Events • Saturday, 7 July: 4th of July Concert & Fireworks at Trophy Point • Tuesday, 12 & 23 July: West Point Orientation • Tuesday, 12 July 1700-1900: Community Wellness Fair • Sunday, 22 July 1130-1600: Ice Cream Social with Class of 2016 • Monday, 13 August 0900-1000: FDW Graduation – families invited
