  2. A Growing Faith Why did Christianity Attract Followers? • It gave meaning to people’s lives • The ideas of Christianity were familiar to many Romans. • It gave people the chance to be part of a caring group.

  3. A Growing Faith Why did the Romans Persecute the Christians? • Christians refused to honor the Roman emperor as a god. • They refused to serve in the army or hold public office. 3. They criticized Roman festivals and games.

  4. Rome Adopts Christianity Constantine • Accepted Christianity after seeing a flaming cross in the sky when he was about to go into battle. It said: “In this sign you will conquer.” He won the battle and believed God had helped him. • 2. Issued an order called the “Edict of Milan” • in A.D. 313 that made Christianity legal. • 3. Build churches in Rome and Jerusalem and led church officials serve in government.
