  1. Bad Design Project(Forum building desks) By Heather Dawe E design 100 Section006 Ming-Chuan Chiu

  2. Original design Designed to be a seat that folds up and down and has a desk table that “turns” up

  3. Problems with design The seat chair hits the desk if a person gets up that could cause computers and papers to fall It is difficult to pull a desk out if someone is already sitting to your right The desks are slanted and things roll off them easily

  4. Solutions to design • Move the desk out further • Make the desks stationary • Put desks on the back of seats

  5. New Design • Much like the lap tables on air planes, the new desks can be adjusted for distance from the desk allowing the user to safely stand up.

  6. Pros and Cons • Pros: • Maneuverability • Ability to customize desk to student • Can easily access desk when classroom is full • Moving Parts are less likely to break • Cons: • Cost to totally re do the desks • Would have to shut down the forum building during renovation • If a desk were to be hit because it was left out it would be more likely to break then the original design • Would have to use more material to make chair backs
