  2. Summaries • Who is he? • James Byrd was 49 African American male from Jasper, Texas • What Happened? • On June 7, 1998 three white men in a pick up truck picked James Byrd who was intoxicated. They beat him up then chained his body to the back of a pick up and drug his body until his head came off after they hit an embankment.
